EASTON, Massachusetts (October 23, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team picked up a big three points as they edged the College of Saint Rose with a score of 4-3 Wednesday afternoon on Skyhawk Field in Northeast-10 Conference play.

  • Classmates Ryan Chieffo and Mackenzie Hoglund tallied the other two goals for the Skyhawks. This was Chieffo's second goal of the season and sixth of his career, while Hoglund recorded his third goal of the season and seventh of his career. Hoglund chipped in an assist on Chieffo's goal, for his first assist of the season and sixth of his career.

  • The Golden Knights outshot the Skyhawks 13-10, while Stonehill was called for 10 fouls and American International picked up eight fouls.

How it Happened:

  • Stonehill was quick to bring the ball to their attacking third as Hoglund sent a shot wide of the right post off a through ball from Ian Pereira in the first 6 minutes of the game.
  • Inside of the 10 minute mark, Hoglund intercepted a ball from the Golden Knights' defenders and controlled the ball, giving Chieffo enough time to get out front to put the ball home for an early 1-0 lead at 8:19.

  • Hoglund tallied a goal and an assist in the Skyhawks' first victory since late September
The two teams traded shots in the 17th and then 18th minutes, including a blocked shot from Pereira inside the six-yard box. Saint Rose then countered with a quick reaction as Fogel sent a through ball past Stonehill defenders giving Halldorsson room to drive the ball to the lower right corner to even the score at one, 1-1, at 18:01.
  • The Golden Knights picked up their first lead of the game, 2-1, a minute and 15 seconds later as Bellu scored at 19:16 off another through ball from Fogel after back-and-forth play in the midfield.
  • Hoglund was able to take a few dribbles before striking the ball past the Golden Knights' goalkeeper at 51:30, as Chieffo pushed the ball through to even the game once again, 2-2.
  • Less than nine minutes later, Halldorsson tallied his second goal of the game to give Saint Rose the advantage once again, 3-2, on a strike that just went under the cross bar at 60:38.
  • Nineteen minutes before the end of regulation, Saint Rose was called for a foul on the left side of the 18-yard box, setting up Stonehill for their third penalty kick of the season. Nutt took the shot and tied the game for the third time with his third successful goal off a penalty at 71:40.
  • In the 87th minute, Saint Rose was called for a foul and from about 35 yards away, Nutt sent a low ball under the defenders and just past the keeper for his third game-winning goal of his career and fifth goal of the season at 86:23.
