Hammersley tallies nine saves

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (September 28, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team fell to Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State University, 2-0, on Saturday night on Jess Dow Field.

Stonehill (3-4, 1-2 NE10) saw freshman goalkeeper Andrew Hammersley with nine saves in the game.

The Owls capitalized on quick one touch passes, as Blaise Haba sent a pass from the middle of the field to Devante Teixeira who took the ball five yards up and placed the ball past the outstretched Hammersley for a 1-0 advantage at 22:41. Southern Conn. followed up the goal with a set piece in the 26th minute that sailed high and to the right from about 20 yards out from Kevin Van der Pol. In the 39th minute, the Owls struck the ball from 10 yards out as Hammersley tallied his fifth save of the game, while Southern Conn. outshot the Skyhawks 8-1.

The Owls recorded 14 shots to the Skyhawks' two in the second half, as Southern Connecticut saw Francisco Rolden with a bullet from 20-yards out to extend their lead to two, 2-0. Rolden put away his third goal of the season at 71:23 with the upper-90 strike. Stonehill saw one of the two shots in the remaining minutes of the second half, but the Owls defended the Skyhawks as they collected any lose ball.
