EASTON, Mass. (September 16, 2019) – Freshman goalkeeper, Andrew Hammersley (Garden City, New York/Chaminade) of the Stonehill College men's soccer team was tabbed Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the League on Monday.  

Hammersley assisted the Skyhawks to a 2-0 week, bouncing back after falling to Chestnut Hill College and Holy Family University in the first week of play. Stonehill defeated Bentley University, 2-1 and Concordia (N.Y.) College, 3-2, as the freshman recorded his first career victory with the win over the Falcons.

The Garden City, New York native recorded five saves against the Falcons and eight against the Clippers in route to the teams second-straight win.

Against Bentley on Wednesday, Stonehill scored two goals in 16 minutes for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons cut the deficit to one, 2-1 in the 78th minute, but the Skyhawks were able to hold on for the non-conference win on Skyhawk Field.

Concordia scored in the 27th minute of the game, but Stonehill tied the game at one, 1-1, about two minutes later. The Skyhawks then came out of halftime and scored twice in the second half, 3-1, for a two-goal lead. Concordia scored in the 70th minute to cut the deficit to one, 3-2, but Hammersley fended them off with two saves before the end of regulation to hold on for his second-straight win in net.

Stonehill (2-2, 0-0 NE10) opens NE10 play on Saturday, September 21 as they host Assumption College with a kickoff time of 2:00 p.m. on Skyhawk Field for their Purple & White Game.
