PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (September 7, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team suffered a late comeback on Saturday afternoon to Holy Family University on Tiger Field in non-conference play with a score of 2-1.
Stonehill (0-2) saw senior Keegan Nutt registered his first goal of the season and eighth of the year, as freshman Andrew Hammersley recorded five saves. Holy Family (0-1) saw Dakota Taylor and Sean McCormick with the goals.
The first half went back and forth, as both teams registered four shots each, while the Skyhawks notched three saves and the Tigers recorded two.
Holy Family acted quickly into the second half, as McCormick ripped a shot to the bottom left of the goal in the 57th minute with assist from Joel Richmond for a 1-0 advantage. About 13 minutes later, Taylor had a wide open shot after Hammersley came out to challenge him for the second goal of the game at 69:03 with help from Will Stackhouse, 2-0.
Both teams had two more shots before a foul was called on the Tigers in the 89th minute of the game inside the 18-yard box. Nutt placed the ball in the back of the net to cut the deficit to one, 2-1, but the Skyhawks were unable to even the game out before regulation was called.
The Skyhawks host Bentley University on Wednesday, September 11 for a non-conference matchup with a start time of 3:30 p.m. on Skyhawk Field.
