New Haven Tops Men’s Soccer, 2-0

Troast tallies three saves

WEST HAVEN, Connecticut (October 20, 2018) - The Stonehill College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision Northeast-10 Conference foe University of New Haven on Saturday night at Kathy Zolad Stadium.

Stonehill saw a shot early in the first half by Ryan Chieffo as the Skyhawks took control after the kickoff and followed that up when their first corner kick, but it was punched out by the Chargers. The Skyhawks saw three more shots before the 10 minute mark, while the Chargers connected on one shot. New Haven then set up a give and go for Juan Felipe Tobon, as Pablo Perez-Gomez banded the ball to Tobon who struck a hard blast to the back of the net at 11:38, 1-0.

New Haven took control following the goal and saw two shots and a corner kick. Thirty minutes later, New Haven set up another opportunity in their attacking third as Peduzzi sent in a cross that ricocheted off a Skyhawk defender for an own goal at 41:02 for a 2-0 lead in favor of the Chargers.

In a very defensive second half, New Haven outshot Stonehill 4-3, as both teams tallied two corner kicks each.

The Skyhawks (6-7-1, 5-6-1 NE10) will travel to Worcester, Massachusetts to face Assumption College on Tuesday, October 23 with a 7:00pm start time.
