Nutt tallies first penalty goal in two years for the Skyhawks

EASTON, Massachusetts (October 6, 2018) –The Stonehill College men's soccer team got ahead against Le Moyne College, who is ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches' East Regional poll, but fell 3-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday afternoon on Skyhawk Field.
Stonehill (4-5-1, 3-4-0 NE10) saw juniors Ryan Chieffo (North Haven, Connecticut/North Haven) and Keegan Nutt (Easton, Massachusetts/Oliver Ames) tally the goals, while classmate Billy Troast (Pompton Plains, New Jersey/Pequannock Township) recorded five saves.
For the first 36 minutes of the game, opportunities were limited, as two of Le Moyne's shots were saved by Troast and Stonehill had no shots on goal, but in the 38th minute, the Skyhawks changed that. After a strike from the Dolphins at the top of the 18-yard box that was covered by Troast, the junior flung the ball to his defenders to bring the ball to their attacking third. Stonehill was able to maneuver the ball to inside the 18-yard box on the left side and a foul was called on Le Moyne setting up the Skyhawks' first penalty kick in two years. Nutt took the kick and connected for a 1-0 lead at 37:33, putting the ball in the back right corner, Stonehill's first penalty goal since James O'Shea '18 tallied one against Le Moyne on October 15, 2016.

The Dophins persisted and with just under a minutes remaining in the first half, Marek Weber connected after a through ball from Salar Faryar for his 10th goal of the season and the equalizer, 1-1, at 44:16.
Stonehill took the lead back early in the second frame after a blocked shot from freshman Ian Pereira (Norton, Massachusetts/Norton), that Chieffo collected inside the 18-yard box for a one-touch and his first goal of the season and second of his career. Later in the second half after very defensive minutes, Stonehill was called for a foul just inside the right side of the 18-yard box, setting Le Moyne up for their own penalty kick. Weber took the shot and registered the equalizer, 2-2, at 69:12 for his 11th of the season, and second of the game.
After three shots, two of which were on goal, the Dolphins' Sam Daniel sent an inswinger from the corner to Breunung who headed it past Troast for his first tally of the season at 86:30, 3-2. With limited time remaining Nutt was the only one to get a foot on the ball inside the box for a blocked shot as the Dolphins would take their third-straight win.
Stonehill continues their two-game home stretch hosting Bentley University on Wednesday, October 10 at W.B. Mason Stadium for a 7:00 p.m. Purple and White Match.
