Men’s Soccer Concludes Season in 2-0 Loss to Saint Anselm

The Skyhawks finished 7-10-0 overall and 5-8-0 in NE-10 play

EASTON, Mass. (October 28, 2016) – The Stonehill men's soccer team concluded the 2016-17 season with a 2-0 loss to Saint Anselm College in its final game Friday night on Skyhawk Field.

Stonehill (7-10-0, 5-8-0 NE-10) totaled 10 shots as a team and four shots on goal in the loss.

Saint Anselm (4-11-1, 3-9-1 NE-10) saw two goal scorers including Zach Heckt and Nick Heckt. Zach also recorded the only assist of the evening in the Hawks' second tally.

Saint Anselm took the opening possession, but Stonehill took the first shot of the game as Adam Branco (Naugatuck, Conn./Naugatuck) tracked the ball and headed it wide left off a free kick. Zach collected the ball as the Skyhawks lost possession in the ninth minute of the game and cut across the top of the 18 finidng the lower left corner as it knicked the goal post. The tally was Zach's third of the season.

Stonehill was able get the edge on shots in the first period with a 4-3 advantage, even with the Hawks 1-0 score.

The Skyhawks held the Hawks to five shots in the second period, but Saint Anselm was able to slip in a goal at the 72nd minute of the game to extend the lead. Zach sent a cross to Nick, who played Stonehill's defense at the left side of the 18, as Nick found the back of the net extending the lead to two. Before time was up, the Skyhawks recorded two shots, as one was blocked by the Hawks' defense and one was saved by the goalkeeper.

Stonehill concludes its season at 7-10-0 overall and 5-8-0 in NE-10 play. Saint Anselm wraps up its season at 4-11-1 overall and 3-9-1 in NE-10 Conference contests.
