COLCHESTER, Vt. (October 1, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team closed out an Northeast-10 Conference matchup with a 1-0 victory over Saint Michael's Saturday morning at Duffy Field.

Stonehill's (4-5-0, 2-3-0 NE-10) junior forward James O'Shea (Quincy, Mass./Quincy) scored the only goal of the game, making it his third of the season and fifth of his career. Classmate Connor O'Brien (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland Central) assisted O'Shea for his second helper of the season.

Saint Michael's (4-5-0, 2-4-0 NE-10) netminder Daniel du Feu recorded five saves from the Skyhawks' three shots on goal.

Stonehill controlled the pace of the game in the first half, as a 10-4 shot advantage would set up the Skyhawks in the 34th minute of the game. O'Brien took a shot from the right at the 33rd minute, which ended in a team save by the Purple Knights. A few seconds later, O'Shea collected the rebound from the earlier shot and sent the ball to the back of the net, putting Stonehill up 1-0. Saint Michael's would close out the first half with only two shots, neither on net.

The Purple Knights rallied back with 10 shots of its own in the second half, but it was not enough as Stonehill's goalkeeper Conor McDonough (Bridgewater, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) saved the three shots on goal. McDonough registered four total saves in the event, while the Purple Knight's goalkeeper tallied six in the loss.

Stonehill comes back home to host Bentley University on Wednesday, October 5 in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Skyhawk Field, which will begin at 3:30 p.m.
