Montano Named NE-10 Select Sport Rookie Of The Week

Freshman forward earns second career weekly award

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2012) – Stonehill College men's soccer freshman forward Drew Montano (Avon, Conn./Avon) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) Select Sport Rookie of the Week for the second time this season by the league office, it was announced earlier today.

Montano factored into three out of four Stonehill goals in the Skyhawks' lone contest on the week, a 4-2 win over The College of Saint Rose on Saturday. Montano assisted on two markers and scored a goal of his own at the 73:49 mark of the game.

Montano currently leads Stonehill in points this season with ten on three goals and four assists. The freshman forward is currently ranked 13th overall in points in the NE-10 and third overall among all classmates in the Conference.

Montano received his first career NE-10 Select Sport Rookie of the Week award on September 5 as he led Stonehill to its first win of the season against Concordia (N.Y.) scoring two goals including the eventual game-winner in his second career collegiate game. His goal at 49:17 turned out to be the difference in the win over the Clippers.

The freshman forward comes to Stonehill after a standout four-year career at Avon High School where he earned All-Conference and All-Hartford Current honors as a junior and All-New England accolades as a senior. Montano, an honors student at Avon, helped the Falcons to a combined record of 28-6 overall between his junior (13-3) and senior (15-3) seasons.

Stonehill (3-11-1, 2-9-0 NE-10) hosts Saint Anselm College on Tuesday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m.
