Stonehill Shut Out at Assumption, 3-0

Skyhawks outshoot Greyhounds but are held scoreless

WORCESTER, Mass. (October 20, 2010) – The Stonehill College men's soccer team fell 3-0 to host Assumption College in a Northeast-10 matchup Wednesday night.

Stonehill finished the night with a 16-9 advantage in shots, but were blanked by an eight-save effort from Assumption goalkeeper Brandan Sullivan (Halesite, N.Y./Saint Dominics). Assumption senior Steve Blaisdell (Peabody, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) scored twice and picked up an assist to lead the Greyhounds, and sophomore Tom Carroll (Belford, N.J./Middletown North) added a goal. Senior goalkeeper Brandon McFarlane (Norwich, Conn./Norwich Free Academy) made two saves in the net for the Skyhawks.

Blaisdell netted Assumption's first goal as the first half was winding down, scoring on a breakaway in the 40th minute, and added another on a long-range attempt in the 61st minute for a 2-0 lead. Carroll put away the third of the night at 76:00, set up by Blaisdell and sophomore Dan Davis (Shrewsbury, Mass./Shrewsbury).

Sullivan saved a penalty kick attempt by junior Michael White (Lisbon, N.H./Lisbon Regional) with ten minutes remaining to hold the Skyhawks scoreless.

Stonehill (5-7-1, 3-6-1 NE-10) will return to Skyhawk Field on Saturday for the final home game of the season, taking on Le Moyne College at 11 a.m.
