EASTON, Mass.-- Freshman Tyler Sangster (Duxbury, Mass.) netted a goal and an assist to lead Saint Anselm to a 4-1 Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer victory over Stonehill Wednesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Sangster's unassisted tally 3:52 into the contest gave the visiting Hawks (6-9-1, 5-6-1 Northeast-10) an early 1-0 advantage, and junior Tim Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) extended that lead to 2-0 in the 22nd minute after converting passes from Sangster and junior Jonathan Cournoyer (North Granby, Conn.) for his seventh goal of the season. Sophomore Daniel Holley (Manorville, N.Y.) sliced the host Skyhawks' (7-10, 3-9 Northeast-10) deficit in half with 1:24 to play in the half by converting a penalty kick following a handball infraction in the box (his fifth tally of the season), and Stonehill nearly evened matters in the first minute following intermission with a shot by senior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) that hit the post.

Saint Anselm closed out the scoring with a pair of goals that came 1:06 apart early in the second half, as junior Rob Thatcher's (Topsfield, Mass.) unassisted marker in the 51st minute was followed by freshman Corey Laycock's (Sandown, N.H.) second goal of the year on feeds from freshman Michael Searson (Avon, Conn.) and junior Tyler Waldrupe (Manchester, N.H.), as the Skyhawks hit a pair of posts and two cross bars on shots in the final 45 minutes of play but were unable to convert.

Junior Scott Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Saint Anselm with three saves on the day, while sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and freshman Brian Guerrini (Glastonbury, Conn.) each made three stops for Stonehill as the Hawks outshot the Skyhawks by an 18-10 margin for the match.

Stonehill closes out its 2006 slate on Saturday afternoon when the Skyhawks travel to Lowell, Mass. to take on UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at 3:00 p.m., while Saint Anselm hosts LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 match on Saturday afternoon in Manchester, N.H. that begins at 1:00 p.m.
