EASTON, Mass.-- Senior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.) and sophomore Rick Carvalho (Hollis, N.H.) each netted a pair of goals to lead Stonehill to a 4-0 non-league college men's soccer victory over Molloy in the season opener for both teams Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Sousa gave the host Skyhawks (1-0) the only marker they would need in the 36th minute of play by converting a penalty kick to give Stonehilll a 1-0 edge at the break, and he extended the hosts' lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute on feeds from Carvalho and freshman Shaun Keeley (Woburn, Mass.) for his second tally of the day. Carvalho closed out the Skyhawk scoring with a pair of goals in the final 10-plus minutes of play, as he struck in the 80th minute on assists from Keeley and freshman T.J. Capecelatro (Orange, Conn.) and added his second marker of the day with just over two minutes remaining in the contest off of his own rebound.

Sophomore Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) picked up his first collegiate victory and shutout in goal for Stonehill with an eight save effort on the afternoon, while sophomore Ettore Morelli (Merrick, N.Y.) made six stops in net for the visiting Lions (0-1) as the Skyhawks outshot Molloy by a 15-12 margin for the match, including an 11-5 edge in the final 45 minutes of play alone.

Stonehill opens Northeast-10 Conference play on Wednesday afternoon when the Skyhawks entertain Saint Rose in a league match at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Molloy heads to Wilmington, Del. on Wednesday afternoon for a non-league outing with Goldey-Beacom that also begins at 4:00 p.m.
