SCHENECTADY, N.Y.-- Goals by sophomores Todd Driscoll (Newburgh, N.Y.) and Mark Rabideau (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) in the final 14-plus minutes of action lifted Saint Rose to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference mens soccer victory over Stonehill Friday afternoon at Union College.
Driscoll converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute to give the host Golden Knights (6-11, 3-10 Northeast-10) the only goal they would need, and Rabideau took a pass from sophomore Kevin ODowd (Hyde Park, N.Y.) with just over six minutes to play to provide an insurance tally. Sophomore Peter Cappiello (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) made five saves to pick up the shutout victory in goal for Saint Rose.
Freshman Danny Kerl (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) made three saves in his first collegiate start in net for the visiting Skyhawks (4-11-1, 3-9 Northeast-10) as Saint Rose outshot Stonehill by a 17-11 margin for the match.
Stonehill closes out the 2005 season on Sunday afternoon by heading to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm in a Northeast-10 outing that begins at Noon. Fridays contest was the season finale for Saint Rose.
