EASTON, Mass.-- Goals by seniors Jonathan Casey (Lynn, Mass) and Kevin Flaherty (Duxbury, Mass.), along with junior Joseph Sousa (Shelton, Conn.), lifted Stonehill to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer victory over Saint Michael’s Friday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

Sousa gave the host Skyhawks (4-7-1, 3-5 Northeast-10) the only goal they would need 15:29 into the match on a feed from freshman Daniel Holley (Manorville, N.Y.), and Casey extended Stonehill’s advantage in the 50th minute off a throw-in by senior Brian Gregorio (Naugatuck, Conn.). Flaherty’s unassisted marker just 2:15 later closed out the scoring for the hosts and gave the Skyhawks their third shutout triumph of the season.

Senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) made 10 saves, including seven second half stops, to pick up the win in goal for Stonehill, while senior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt.) made three saves in 76-plus minutes of action for the visiting Purple Knights (4-8-1, 2-6-1 Northeast-10) as Saint Michael’s outshot the Skyhawks by a 20-13 margin. The victory was Stonehill’s third straight in the series with the Purple Knights dating back to 2003.

Stonehill’s scheduled Northeast-10 match with LeMoyne that was to have been played on Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field has already been postponed due to the impending inclement weather, as the Skyhawks and Dolphins will now meet on Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
