RINDGE, N.H.-- Goals by graduate student Christopher Joyce (Jarrow, England) and freshman Marek Hawrylik (Olsztyn, Poland) lifted Franklin Pierce to a 2-0 Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer victory over Stonehill Saturday evening at Sodexho Field.
Joyce gave the host Ravens (6-4-2, 4-1-1 Northeast-10) the only tally they would need in the 39th minute on a feed from freshman Raphael Guimaraes (Marlboro, Mass.) for a 1-0 Franklin Pierce lead at the break, and Hawrylik took a Joyce pass in the 75th minute of action to provide an insurance marker for the hosts.
Sophomore James Thorpe (East Longmeadow, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Franklin Pierce without having to make a save, while senior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) made nine stops in net for the visiting Skyhawks (3-6-1, 2-4 Northeast-10) as the Ravens held Stonehill without a shot on goal while recording 23 of their own for the match.
Stonehill hosts Bryant in a Northeast-10 outing on Tuesday afternoon at Skyhawk Field beginning at 4:00 p.m., while Franklin Pierce hosts LeMoyne in a Northeast-10 match on Tuesday afternoon at Sodexho Field that also begins at 4:00 p.m.
