EASTON, Massachusetts (May 21, 2020) – Stonehill College senior goaltender Matthew Schoen has earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District® At-Large first team for District I, as announced by the members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) in the region. Schoen is now eligible for Academic All-America® honors, selected by CoSIDA's Academic All-America® Committee, as well as voters from the region, to be announced during the second week of June.

Schoen, who has earned a 3.67 cumulative grade point average as a finance major and management information systems minor at the College, is the fourth CoSIDA Academic All-District® selection all-time for the Stonehill ice hockey program, its first since Dana Borges, '13 in 2013, who previously earned it in 2012 as well.

Schoen started in 22 of 23 games played this season with 1,351 minutes between the pipes, as the Skyhawks completed the season with 29 on the schedule. The recent graduate led the Skyhawks to their third Northeast-10 Conference title as they defeated Saint Michael's College, 3-1 at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton, Massachusetts in early March. Stonehill wrapped up the season with a 13-15-5 overall mark and an 8-6-4 conference record, as they began the season just 1-7-1.

Competing in the NE10 Championship game for their fifth time in program history and 19th appearance in the NE10 Tournament since 1999, this was the first time the Skyhawks hosted the Championship game as the 2015-16 title was canceled due to health concerns and Stonehill won the title as the highest remaining seed. The 2019-20 season was the first winning season since 2015-16 where the team went 13-9-4, 5-1-2 NE10.

Schoen, who only played started in six of seven games played prior to his senior season, saw career highs in every category. He gave up 59 goals for a 2.62 goals against average with 828 saves and a .933 save percentage. His overall record was 12-7-3 for the year. In the NE10, he ranked first in games played, saves, save percentage, and wins, third in goals against average, and seventh in goals against.

Schoen was named the NE10 All-Tournament Most Outstanding Player as well as being named to the NE10 All-Tournament Team. Prior to playoffs, Schoen was voted by the NE10 coaches as the 2020 NE10 Goaltender of the Year, as well as tabbed on the NE10 All-Conference first team. The Tolland, Connecticut native was also voted to the 2020 NE10 Academic All-Conference Team and was the ice hockey 2020 NE10 Sport Excellence Award Winner. He is a two-time American Hockey Coaches Association All American Scholar, receiving the honor his sophomore and junior years. The graduate was also inducted into Stonehill's Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society. During his sophomore and junior years, he was also awarded the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award. This past year Schoen earned Stonehill's St. Thomas Aquinas, Patron Saint of Students, medal for having the highest cumulative grade point average on the ice hockey team.
