Anna Maria Skates Past Ice Hockey, 4-1

Nehmer nets his fourth goal of the season

FOXBORO, Massachusetts (February 8, 2020) The Stonehill College ice hockey team scored first, but Anna Maria College scored four to secure a 4-1 non-conference win over the Skyhawks at Foxboro Sports Center Saturday night.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (7-10-4, 4-5-3 NE10) freshman Brendan Nehmer scored his fourth goal of the season unassisted in the first period of the game.
  • Sophomore goaltender Chase McKay tallied 18 saves in the game.
  • Anna Maria College (12-7-5) saw Gavin Proeh with two goals and Michael Padgeon and Jack Sitzman with their own scores. Jonathan Fowler registered two assists, while Nolan Shaw, Brody McDougal, and Sam Cyr-Ledoux recorded one assist each. In net, Julius Huset recorded 30 saves.
  • The Skyhawks outshot the AMCATS 31-22, as Stonehill went 0-6 and Anna Maria went 0-2 in power play opportunities.

How It Happened:

  • Stonehill was called for the first penalty of the game at 11:22 and Anna Maria was called for their own penalty at 12:26. The two teams skated four-on-four for 12 seconds before the AMCATS were called for another penalty at 12:38. In that time, Stonehill outshot Anna Maria 4-3.
  • With full strength back on the ice, Anna Maria looked to dump the puck in front of the crease, but Nehmer was there intercepting the attempt. He raced to keep up with the rolling dish and he was able to play the puck in front of Huset before sliding it around his left pad for a 1-0 lead at 15:16.
  • At 8:56 in the second period, Shaw skated along the boards with the puck handing it to Padgeon who put it past McKay to even the score at 1-1.
  • In the second period, Stonehill skated with a five-on-three for two minutes, as Anna Maria put two skaters in the box. The Skyhawks got off three shots in the time, and a minute following the end of the power play, Anna Maria took the lead as Proeh put away a rebound at 14:50 for a 2-1 advantage.
  • A little over eight minutes into the third period, Cyr-Ledoux handled the puck and found the open Sitzman who charged forward on the left side for a quick one-timer at 8:23 for a two-goal lead, 3-1.
  • Fowler dumped the puck in front of the crease and Proeh came in from the right to push it over the line for a three-goal advantage at 11:08.
