Ice Hockey Sweeps NE10 Weekly Honors

This is the first time since 2017 that the Skyhawks have swept weekly honors

Wright

EASTON, Mass. (February 3, 2020) – Stonehill College men's ice hockey swept the weekly honors after a 1-0-1 week, as senior Cameron Wright led the way with Player of the Week, senior Matthew Schoen earned Goaltender of the Week, and freshman Brendan Nehmer was tabbed Rookie of the Week.

In a two-game week, Stonehill played in their sixth overtime game of the season, skating to a 3-3 draw against Franklin Pierce University. The Skyhawks then battled the Ravens for the third game of the series on Saturday and saw seven different goal scorers in the 7-2 victory. In the past 11 games, the Skyhawks have lost just two contests.

Wright was just one of two Skyhawks to total four points in the two-game week. He scored his 13th goal of the season in the 7-2 victory over the Ravens for a season high. In the win, he also chipped in two assists for his fourth game this season with three points and fifth game with multiple points. He brought his assist total this season up to 10.


Schoen

Nehmer

In the NE10, Wright is fourth in points (23), second in goals (13), and 19th in assists (10), while scoring four power play goals with his first career hat trick this season. The West Dummerston, Vermont native has scored 36 goals and 42 assists for 78 points in the 97 games played.

His classmate, Schoen, earns his second Goaltender of the Week honor this season after stopping 83 of the 88 shots taken at him for a 0.943 save percentage. In his 15th and 16th game played this season, the senior gave up five goals, three in the 3-3 tie and two in a 7-2 win.

This year, he has seen career bests in three categories, including goals against average (2.77), saves (567), and save percentage (.930). He leads the Conference in save percentage, is second in saves, and fourth in goals against average.

Nehmer was the other Skyhawk that totaled four points this weekend as he registered four assists over the two games. In the 7-2 win, the freshman recorded three of his four assists for his first-career three-point game. Two of the assists came back-to-back as Stonehill went up 2-0 in the second period, including a power play goal to kick off the scoring. This weekend brought up his assist total to 13 to sit ninth in the Conference, while his 16 total points is 19th overall.

Stonehill (7-9-4, 4-5-3 NE10) will host their final non-conference game of the season as they face Anna Maria College (10-7-5) at Foxboro Sports Center on Saturday, February 8 with a 5:10 p.m. puck drop.
