FOXBORO, Massachusetts (February 1, 2020) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team saw seven goal scorers in a 7-2 victory Saturday night over Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce University at Foxboro Sports Center.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (7-9-4, 4-5-3 NE10) Zachary Frament, Connor Jewett, Cameron Wright, Charles Page, Kayser Raei, Nicholas Godin, and Mike Seoane all had a hand in the win as they each scored a goal.
  • Raei led the team with three points as he added two assists, while five other Skyhawks tallied two points each. Wright, Page, Godin, and Frament each chipped in a goal and an assist. Michael Seibold, Ryan Meade, Teddy McElaney, John Peloso, and Sean Conley recorded the other helpers.
  • Senior goaltender Matthew Schoen recorded 46 saves in the game for his fourth win this season.
  • Franklin Pierce (11-9-3, 5-5-2 NE10) saw Chris Stevenson and Cameron Shepardson with the tallies, while James Morrissey, Ryan Gorbett, and Anthony Nikolopoulos registered the assists.  Ian Wallace stopped 26 shots in net.
  • The Skyhawks were outshot by the Ravens 48-33, as both teams scored two power play goals in the game.

How It Happened:

  • On Stonehill's first power play opportunity, Nehmer sent the puck from the right to Conley who was at the top of the zone. Conley then shot a rocket into the crease for Frament to tip the puck over the line at 3:12 in the second period. This was Frament's fourth goal of the season and eighth of his career.
  • With a three-on-one in favor of the Skyhawks, Jewett, Wright, and Nehmer charged through the neutral zone. Jewett handed it to Wright, who found Nehmer on the left side and Jewett hammered it home for a 2-0 advantage at 8:01 in the second period.

Stonehill was called for their fourth and fifth penalties and the Ravens capitalized on both chances. Stevenson was able to put away a rebound at 9:02 to cut the deficit to one, 2-1 at 9:02. Four minutes later Shephardson slapped the puck on net and found an open slot to tie the game at two, 2-2 at 13:12.
  • Following a turnover in the Skyhawks' defensive zone and 24 seconds following the Ravens' goal, Stonehill skated the puck down ice and set up before dumping the puck down low for Wright's 13th goal of the game at 13:36 and 36th of his career.
  • Six seconds before the end of the period, Stonehill capitalized on another power play opportunity. After winning a faceoff in their offensive zone, the Skyhawks maneuvered the puck on the right side of the zone and Raei found an open with a cross through the crease to Page for a one timer extending their lead back to two, 4-2, for his eighth goal of the season.
  • Thirty eight seconds into the third period, Raei slipped the puck into the crease for his seventh goal of the season and 13th of his career. Late in the frame, Stonehill once again took the puck away from the Ravens in the Stonehill defensive zone and skated it down. Godin angled himself to take a long shot at the open net from the right side following a pass from Raei in the neutral zone for a four-goal lead at 18:07. This was Godin's third goal of the season.
  • Stonehill put one more goal on the board at 19:46 as Seoane, Nehmer and Peloso took some shots at Wallace before Seoane found the back of the cage for his seventh goal of the season.

Note:

Prior to the game, Stonehill raised awareness to mental health and the Hope Happens Here foundation. The Hope Happens Here foundation was formed in 2015 by members of Saint Michael's College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in hopes to raise awareness and dedicate the time to fighting the negative stigma surrounding mental illnesses on college campus. The Skyhawks held a ceremonial puck drop for hosting their first event with special guest Jessica Greene, Stonehill's health and wellness coordinator. They also held raffles to raise money for the Stonehill College chapter of Hope Happens Here. The team thanks everyone that came out to support!
