Wright Nets Hat Trick in 4-4 Draw With Assumption

Wright records his first-career hat trick in Skyhawks' third draw of the season

WORCESTER, Massachusetts (January 25, 2020) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team skated to a 4-4 draw in the final game of the series against Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday night at Buffone Arena.

By the Numbers:

  • Stonehill's (6-9-3, 3-5-2 NE10) Cameron Wright recorded his first-career hat trick, while Charles Page scored his seventh goal of the season.
  • Kayser Raei and Ryan Meade registered two assists in the game, while Michael Seibold, Sage Bittinger-esser, and Jack Hall, each chipped in one helper each.  Senior Matthew Schoen registered 44 saves.
  • Assumption College (9-7-3, 6-3-1 NE10) saw Michael Zampanti with three points, including a goal and an assist, while Colin Montgomery, Robert Holyoke, and Colin Philippon each found the back of the cage once. Ben Barton tallied two points on two assists, as John Pigott, and Brendan Philippon registered an assist each.
  • The Greyhounds once again outshot the Skyhawks, 48-27, as both teams capitalized on one power play each during the game.

How It Happened:

  • Assumption got off a quick shot perpendicular to the cage that was saved by Schoen, and Hall gathered the puck off the boards, as Wright skated the dish all the way down the ice. He handed it over before receiving it back for a one-timer at 1:48 in the first period for a 1-0 lead. This was his 10th goal of the season and 33rd of his career
  • A little less than two minutes later, Stonehill maintained possession in their offensive zone as an initial shot from Nicholas Godin bounced off the pads of Drew Benedict, before Page put away his seventh goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage at 3:32.
  • Assumption took the puck away from Stonehill and wrapped it around the boards. One Greyhound was able to pull it off the boards on the left side of the cage, as another Greyhound turned around and dumped it off to Colin Philippon at 14:37 to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
  • Twenty seven seconds into the Skyhawks' third power play opportunity of the game, Wright sent a shot from the right faceoff circle after Stonehill set up a play to extend their lead to two goals again, 3-1, at 12:18.
  • Assumption responded in the 16th minute of play with two goals in a span of 15 seconds from Holyoke and Zampanti to tie the game for the first time, 3-3.
  • In the 19th minute of play in the second period, the referees called for a penalty on the Greyhounds but the Skyhawks skated the puck through the neutral zone and into their offensive third as Wright sat wide open for his third goal of the game at 18:19 to take the lead back, 4-3.

  • Both teams fought until the end as the Greyhounds outshot the Skyhawks in each period, including overtime, as Stonehill went 1-for-5 on power plays and Assumption went 1-for-4.
