Four different goal scorers lift Skyhawks over Eagles

SHELTON, Connecticut (January 25, 2019) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team posted its first road victory this season over Post University with a score of 4-3 after coming from behind Friday night at the Sports Center of Connecticut.
For Stonehill, (5-10-1), Nick Schofield, Charles Page, Jack Scannell, and Kayser Raei scored the goals, while Seth Murray, Jack Hall, and Zachary Frament each registered assists. Senior goaltender Billy Palmer recorded 33 saves.
The Skyhawks were called for the first penalty of the game at 3:20 in the first period, as they began to figure out their bearings with the Eagles. Stonehill killed the power play and Post only saw two shots on goal in the two-minute penalty. The Skyhawks were unable to hold their ground in the opening frame, as a second penalty was called against them and Post capitalized on the opportunity scoring at 11:10 in the frame. Jack Raleigh put up the Eagles' first goal with assist from Sean Castagna 30-seconds into the power play, 1-0. At 15:35, Post was called for their first penalty but Stonehill's opportunity for a man advantage ended quickly when the Skyhawks were called for another penalty at 16:09. However, Stonehill answered Post's goal with one of their own from Schofield, 1-1. The sophomore tallied his third goal of the season and seventh career, while Frament recorded his third of the season and ninth overall.
The Eagles put up two goals in the second period just over two minutes apart to give them a two-goal advantage, 3-1. Matt Moreschi scored the first at 7:56, while Evan Lugo registered the second at 10:26 in the frame. Stonehill wouldn't let up, as Page put up his seventh goal of the season at 16:44, cutting the deficit to one for the Skyhawks, 3-2. By the end of the second, Stonehill held a 35-22 shot advantage, clearly giving the Purple and White an edge in the game.
The beginning of the third period began with a 7-2 shot advantage in favor of the Skyhawks, including Scannell's third goal of the season and ninth tally of his career putting the equalizer on the board, 3-3, at 5:42. Three minutes later, Post was called for its fourth penalty of the game, giving Stonehill another chance with an extra skater. The Eagles tried to gain possession, but the Skyhawks misplayed the puck in their offensive zone and quickly regained it before they could clear it. Hall and Murray handled the puck with ease as they tossed it to one another before dumping it to Raei who was in front of the net for his second-collegiate goal at 9:52, 4-3. The Eagles held the shot advantage in the final period, 22-13, while both teams capitalized on 1-of-4 power play opportunities.
The Skyhawks will wrap up their three-game series with Post University tomorrow, Saturday, January 26 with a puck drop at 7:30 p.m. at the Sports Center of Connecticut.
