Northeast 10 Men's Ice Hockey Report: Week 8

EASTON, Mass. (January 8, 2018) – Stonehill College men's ice hockey senior goaltender Billy Palmer was named Northeast-10 Conference Goaltender of the Week after kicking off the New Year with a 6-2 victory.

Palmer assisted the Skyhawks to a 6-2 victory against non-conference Johnson & Wales University this past weekend. Stonehill has now won two of the last three games. The Cranston, Rhode Island native totaled 31 saves against the Wildcats on Saturday to bring Stonehill to a 4-1 record at Foxboro Sports Center this season, its best start at home since the 2014-15 season when the team went 4-0-2.

Against the Wildcats, Stonehill got off to a quick 5-0 start scoring two goals in the first period and three in the second frame, before Johnson & Wales found the back of the cage twice in two and a half minutes. The Skyhawks then took advantage of four minutes of empty net time at the end of the game to pick up one more goal for a 6-2 victory.

Currently in the NE10, Palmer is second in save percentage (.907), third in goals against average (3.09) and minutes in goal, and fourth in saves (262).

As a freshman, Palmer led the Skyhawks to its second NE10 championship, while also being named NE10 Rookie of the Year and selected to the NE10 All-Conference second team.

Stonehill (4-8-0, 1-4-0 NE10) travels to Manchester, New Hampshire to play Saint Anselm College (8-8-1, 3-1-0 NE10) in two games of the three-game series. The first game, with a puck drop of 7:00 p.m., is on Friday, January 11, while the second follows on Saturday, January 12 at 4:00 p.m. at Sullivan Arena.
