Murray scores his first-collegiate goal to knot the game at one, 1-1

WORCESTER, Massachusetts (November 25, 2018) – The Stonehill College ice hockey team dropped a non-conference matchup to Becker College, 2-1, in overtime, Sunday afternoon at the Fidelity Bank Worcester Ice Center in the Steve Hoar Tournament.

For Stonehill, (1-5-0, 1-3-0 NE10), sophomore Seth Murray netted his first-collegiate goal and point to put the equalizer on the board, while senior Shamus Maloney registered his second assist of the season and eighth helper of his career. Junior Billy Palmer tallied 24 saves in his fourth game this season.

The Skyhawks held a high shot advantage at the end of the first period, 16-5, as the Hawks were called for the first penalty of the game in the early minutes of the game. Becker's Tyler Forest was called for tripping at 4:50 and Stonehill saw two shots that were saved by the Hawks' goaltender Cody Foster. The Hawks' were able to kill the penalty with the defense keeping the puck away from the cage.

Late in the second period, Stonehill was called for their first penalty of the game, giving Becker their first power play of the game. The Skyhawks' defense held true for 44 seconds, before Forest found the back of the net after a quick pass from Corey Schafer at 14:00. Stonehill continued crashing the cage in their attacking third tallying 12 more shots in the second frame compared to Becker's eight.


Maloney tallies his second assist of the season and eighth of his career.

Becker saw its second and third penalty in the third period and Stonehill tried its hand at putting a tally on the board, and finally with 1:35 remaining in regulation, the Skyhawks knotted the score, 1-1. Stonehill called a timeout at 18:15 after the Hawks' were called for a cross checking penalty and the Skyhawks also pulled Palmer for an extra skater. Murray was able to find the back of the cage at 18:25 for his first-collegiate goal with assist from Maloney.

The Hawks won their 36th faceoff in the game at the start of the Skyhawk's second overtime game of the season and 13-seconds into play, Jason Diamond netted the game winner with assist from Romain Wild for the Becker's first win of the season, 2-1.

Stonehill will host Post University on Tuesday, November 27 at the Foxboro Sports Center with a puck drop at 7:00 p.m. before going on a two-game road trip to kick off their December schedule.
