Skyhawks finished the 2017-18 season fifth in the conference

EASTON, Mass. (October 22, 2018) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey program has been picked to finish fifth out of six teams in the 2018-19 Northeast-10 Conference ice hockey preseason coaches' poll, the league announced Friday.

Saint Michael's College totaled 24 points and four first-place votes to lead the NE10 in the Preseason Poll this year, as defending champions Saint Anselm College fell just shy of the Purple Knights claiming second place with 21 points and two first-place tallies. Southern New Hampshire University, who finished fourth in the NE10 last season was voted to finish third with 17 total points, as Assumption College collected 12 points for fourth place. Stonehill and Franklin Pierce University each tallied eight points tying for fifth place in the poll.

The Skyhawks finished fifth in the conference in 2017-18 after taking the title in 2015-16. Last season, Stonehill totaled an overall record of 7-16-2 and a 5-9-1 Conference mark.

From the 2017-18 squad, the Skyhawks graduated three seniors and this year, Stonehill will add six newcomers. Of the three that left include forward Austin Goldstein '18, and defenders Connor Tedesco '18 and Brendan White '18.

Senior Shamus Maloney (North Attleboro, Massachusetts/Neponset Valley River Rats) returns to the lineup, as he led the Skyhawks last season with 15 points, nine goals and six assists in his first season in the Purple & White. Maloney ranked 12th in the Conference in goals scored and 23rd in points tallied.

Junior Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vermont/Springfield Pics-EHL Premier) also returns as he was second on the team with 14 points last season, four goals and 10 assists. Senior forward captain Christopher Page (Winthrop, Massachusetts/Winthrop) was fourth on the team last season and the final Skyhawk with double-digit points, tallying 10 total with five goals and five assists.

Sophomore defender Sean Conley (Cheektowaga, New York/Buffalo Jr. Sabres - TIEHL) was the only Purple & White tabbed on the NE10 All-Conference second team and All-Rookie Team last season. As a freshman, he scored two goals and five assists for seven points and he appeared in all 25 games last season. He was ranked 16th among defenders in the Conference totaling in points and assists and was tabbed 14th among freshman in scoring.

Also returning for the Skyhawks this season includes senior goaltender and alternate captain Billy Palmer (Cranston, Rhode Island/Boston Bandits – EHL Premier), who finished first in the Conference in saves (650), eighth in goals against average (3.26) and save percentage (.907). Joining Palmer to lead the team is junior defender and alternate captain Michael Seibold (Reading, Massachusetts/Williston Northampton) who registered three assists last season for a two-year total of seven.

Stonehill opens up the 2018-19 season with a 5:10 p.m. contest hosting Plymouth State University on Saturday, November 3 at the Foxboro Sports Center for their home and season opener. The Skyhawks then travel to open up Conference play against Assumption College on Tuesday, November 6 at 7:35 p.m. and Southern New Hampshire University at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13.
