No. 13/14 Endicott Blanks Ice Hockey, 5-0

Mahoney and Tedesco blocked four shots

BEVERLY, Mass. (January 13, 2017) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team was tripped up by No. 13/14 Endicott's offense as it blanked the Skyhawks 5-0 Friday night at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.

Mahoney blocked a team-high four blocks in the game

The loss for the Skyhawks puts them at 4-10-3 overall, as goalkeeper Billy Palmer (Cranston, R.I./Boston Bandits-EHL Premier) recorded 37 saves in the game. Thomas Mahoney (Suffern, N.Y./The Taft School) and Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) each stopped four shots apiece.

Endicott (11-2-2) saw Josh Bowes (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada/Johnstown Tomahawks-NAHL) record two goals, while Ross Olsson (Billerica, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club-USHPL Premier), Joseph Slovak (South Yarmouth, Mass./Bay State Breakers-USHPL Premier), and Lloyd Hayes (West Newbury, Mass./Islanders Hockey Club-USPHL Premier) tally one score apiece.

Both teams remained scoreless after the first period as Stonehill held the slight edge in shots with 11 shots to Endicott's 10.

The Gulls came out firing in the second period as a 20-8 shot advantage saw a strong four-goal lead for Endicott. Jack Kilty (Medway, Mass./Boston Jr. Bruins –USPHL) fired the puck off the wall finding Tommy Besinger (Milton, Mass./Army West Point-Atlantic Hockey) who slotted the dish to Olsson for his ninth goal of the season at 5:32 in the second frame. Around three minutes later, Slovak found the back of the net after four-straight attempts from the Gulls, including assists from Jacob Gammelgaard (Esbjerg, Denmark/Springfield Pics-USPHL Premier) and John Carricato (Ridge, N.Y./Springfield Pics-USPHL Premier) at 8:04.

At 12:45 in the second, Bowes tallied his fourth goal of the season as the Gulls offense crashed the net and extended its lead to three, 3-0. The Skyhawks were able to hold off the Gulls for five minutes until Bowes netted his second of the game in a man-advantage opportunity putting Endicott on top, 4-0.

Stonehill's defense was strong in the third period, as the Skyhawks only allowed one final goal by the Gulls' Hayes who collected a rebound from Jack Musil's (Hull, England/University of Maine-Hockey East) shot prior, slotting his first of the season at 10:31.

Stonehill faces Franklin Pierce University for its second contest against the Ravens in a Northeast-10 Conference battle on Saturday, January 14 with a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.
