Godin tallies his second-career goal and first game winner

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 7, 2016) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference win against Southern New Hampshire University in a 3-2 home opener at Foxboro Sports Center Monday night.

Stonehill (2-1-1, 1-0-0 NE-10) saw Evan Jacques (Norton, Mass./South Shore Kings - EJHL), Connor Tedesco (Winchester, Mass./Proctor Academy), and Nicholas Godin (New London, N.H./Tabor Academy) tally the goals in the victory. Connor Collier (Madison, N.J./New Jersey Hitmen - USPHL), Cameron Wright (West Dummerston, Vt./Vermont Academy), Connor Jewett (Berlin, N.H./Berlin), and Ryan Smith (Arlington, Mass./Tilton School) assisted the goals.

Southern New Hampshire's (2-1-0, 0-1-0 NE-10) Brett Strawn and Joseph Berardi recorded the two goals, as Artem Efimov-Barakov and Chris Moquin registered the assists.

Stonehill had the shot advantage in the first period, but Southern New Hampshire was able to capitalize on a man advantage where four-straight shots resulted in an unassisted goal by Strawn at 10:54. The Skyhawks continued pressing against the Penmen in the first period until one second before the buzzer, as Jacques was able to get off his second goal of the season off a faceoff won by Stonehill, knotting the game at one.

Southern New Hampshire was able to get back on top late in the second period as Berardi picked up his first of the season from teammates Efimov-Barakov and Moquin at 16:27, giving the Penmen its second one-goal advantage, 2-1. Even with Stonehill's 19-5 shot advantage in the second frame, the Skyhawks were unable to find a hole to slot the puck in.

For the second time this season, Stonehill fell behind early but was able to score two unanswered goals in the third period to surpass the Penmen 3-2. Tedesco tied up the game at two with an assist by Jewett at 5:41, as a slapshot to the back of the cage was the game changer.

At 11:23, freshman Godin recorded his second goal of the season and first game winner, as Smith found him in front of the cage for the go-ahead tally after back-to-back shots from Zachary Frament (Concord, N.H./Tilton School).

The teams were each able to capitalize on one of the seven penalties throughout the nightcap

Stonehill hosts non-conference Framingham State University on Saturday, November 12 for a 6:10 p.m. contest at Foxboro Sports Center.
