Skyhawks win matchup of 2014-15 NE-10 regular season co-champs

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (November 17, 2015) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team posted a 4-1 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Tuesday night in Cairns Arena.

Stonehill received a balanced attack from the offense with four different players registering a goal. Sophomores Brendan White (North Reading, Massachusetts/Kimball Union Academy) and Austin Goldstein (Parkland, Florida/Hebron Academy), junior Mike Thiesing (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Winchendon School) and senior Thomas Depoalo (Mendham, New Jersey/Morristown Beard School) did the damage for the Skyhawks, each netting a goal.

Making his second start of the season in net, senior goaltender Patrick Farrington (Sandwich, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) improved to 1-0-1 on the season after stopping 23 shots, including 10 in the first period.

For Saint Michael's, freshman forward Colin Biebel (Roxborough Park, Colorado/Walpole Express) scored his first collegiate goal in the third period at the 6:38 mark. Senior forward Nick Potter (Stoneham, Massachusetts/The Brooks School) and freshman forward Nic Hermary (Coquitlam, British Columbia/Melfort Mustangs) were credited with assists on the tally.

Saint Michael's senior netminder Michael Comitini (Hudson, Quebec/Cornwall Colts) and freshman Chris Johnson (Duxbury, Massachusetts/Pomfret School) combined to make 23 saves on the night.

Stonehill opened the scoring just 4:50 into the opening period when White rang a shot from the left wing that went off the goalie's mask and into the upper right corner. DePoalo doubled the Skyhawk lead at the 6:31 mark, finding the right side of the net from the slot.

The Skyhawks struck again two more times just 1:08 apart in the second period to put the game out of reach. Goldstein potted his first goal of the season at 13:39 when he collected a rebound off a shot by senior Robbie Dorgan (Ossining, New York/Boston Bulldogs - AJHL) and hammered it past the goalie. Thiesing made it 4-0 at the 14:47 mark of the second period on assists by Dorgan and sophomore Tommy Newton (Hollis, New Hampshire/Portland Jr. Pirates - USPHL- Premier).

Saint Michael's got on the board midway through the third period on Biebel's power play goal, when he converted Hermary's pass out of the slot to thwart Farrington's shutout bid.

Following tonight's contest, Stonehill (3-1-2, 2-0-1 NE-10) will remain on the road as they travel to Suffolk University. The Skyhawks and Rams will face off on Thursday night at 7:40 p.m. Saint Michael's (0-5-0, 0-2-0 NE-10) will host Castleton University Friday night at 7 p.m.
