Tasiopoulos Garners NE-10 Rookie of the Week Accolades

Norwell, Mass. native earns fourth-career NE-10 weekly award

EASTON, Mass. (February 28, 2012) – Stonehill College freshman goaltender Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) has been named the Rookie of the Week by the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), it was announced earlier this week.

In one start on the week, Tasiopoulos turned away 40 shots, including a game-high 14 in the third period, to help the Skyhawks to a 1-1 tie in overtime versus Saint Anselm on Tuesday. It's the third time this season he has been honored as the conference's top newcomer. Tasiopoulos has also earned Goaltender of the Week honors on November 15, 2011.

Among all goaltenders in the NE-10, Tasiopoulos ranks second in goals against average (GAA) at 2.99, third in save percentage (.919) and third in winning percentage. The freshman has compiled at least 30 saves in five separate games this season and 40 saves or more in a three contests registering a 4-3-1 record during that stretch. Tasiopoulos' career-high in saves is 44 which he has set twice against Western New England College (12/18/11) in a 4-3 win and Southern New Hampshire University (1/28) in a 3-1 triumph.

Third-seeded Stonehill (10-11-3, 6-3-2 NE-10) will participate in its third NE-10 Tournament title game on Saturday, March 3 against first-seeded Saint Anselm (13-8-5, 3-0-2 NE-10) at 3 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. The Sky­hawks, making their 13th appearance in the NE-10 Tournament in program history, defeated second-seeded Assumption, 3-1, on the road this Saturday. Stonehill is 8-4-1 overall on the road this season and 0-0-1 against the Hawks after skating to a 1-1 tie in overtime in its finale regular season game on Tuesday, February 21.
