Greene's four point night leads Stonehill past Suffolk

EVERETT, Mass. (December 10, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team potted a season-high seven goals to earn a 7-3 victory over Suffolk University in non-conference action on Saturday night at the Allied Veterans Memorial Skating Rink.
Stonehill is now 3-1-1 overall in its last five contests having scored 25 goals during that stretch. The Skyhawks are also undefeated in their last four games at 3-0-1 overall.
Senior forward Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) paced the offense with one goal and three assists for four points. Sophomore forward Andrew Miller (Oxford, Conn./Kent School) scored the eventual game-winner at 14:19 of the second period, shorthanded, on a feed from Greene and added an assist on the Skyhawks second goal of the contest.
Freshman netminder Chris Tasiopoulos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) turned away 33 shots to improve to 5-5-0 overall. Tasiopoulos has made 30 saves or more in six of his ten games this season and 77 in has last two contests after setting a career-high in saves with 44 on Thursday in a 4-2 win over Western New England.
Stonehill jumped out to a 3-0 advantage after the first period of play as freshman forward Stephen Balsamo (Atkinson, N.H./Brewster Academy) pushed the Skyhawks ahead 1-0 at 3:19 on assists from classmate J.B. Sarra (Colts Neck, N.J.) and junior defenseman J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Tilton School).
Sophomore Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) made it 2-0 at 9:39 while junior Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Tilton School) capped the scoring at the 12:49 mark on feeds from sophomore Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) and Greene for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
After Suffolk cut the deficit to 3-2 on a power play goal from Scott Mathieu (Taunton, Mass.) 59 seconds into the period and Andrew Flynn's (Stamford, Conn./Berkshire School) third goal of the season at 8:31, Miller finished on a pass from Greene for his first-career goal at 14:19, shorthanded, for the eventual game-winner.
The Skyhawks netted three goals in the third stanza as Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.) scored at 6:30, Rooney added his fifth marker of the season at 10:22 and Greene sealed the victory with a power play tally at 17:39, his fourth goal of the season.
Sophomore goaltender Cam Kelley (Brighton, Mass./Arlington Catholic) had 13 saves in the loss to fall to 2-8-0 overall. Backup netminder Brett Roman (Rock Tavern, N.Y.) stopped three shots in 13 minutes and 30 seconds of action.
Stonehill (5-6-1, 2-1-0 NE-10), who has not scored more than seven goals since its 10-4 win over Southern New Hampshire on February 18, 2010, returns to action on Sunday, January 15 against Becker College, on the road, at 3:00 p.m. Suffolk (2-8-0, 0-4-0 ECAC Northeast) travels to the University of New England on Saturday, January 7 at 7:00 p.m.
