Stonehill Doubles Up Franklin Pierce, 6-3

Skyhawks use six different goal scorers to defeat Ravens

Franklin Pierce University.

WINCHENDON, Mass. (December 3, 2011) – The Stonehill College men's ice hockey team jump started its four-game road stand with a 6-3 victory over Franklin Pierce University on Saturday night in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action at Jason Ritchie Ice Arena.

Stonehill used six different goal scorers and three assists from junior forward Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle & Cassidy) to bounce back from back-to-back defeats following a week and a half off.

Tied 3-3 in the third period, sophomore forward Bill Carey (Weymouth, Mass.) potted the eventual game-winner at the 3:55 mark on feeds from senior forward Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and J.J. Sabin (Milton, Mass./Tilton School) for a 4-3 advantage.

Junior forward Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Tilton School) added an insurance marker at 15:01 on assists by Greene and freshman defenseman Oliver Williams (Centerport, N.Y.). Just 52 seconds later, sophomore forward Bryan Rooney (Canton, Mass./New Hampton School) put the game on ice with his third goal of the season at 15:53 set up by Borges and freshman forward Kevin Aufiero (Canton, Mass.).

Junior defenseman Min Seong Kim (Seoul, South Korea/Northwood School) and Tyler Gordon (Franklin, Mass./Xaverian Brothers) added goals in the first period while freshman defenseman Brendan Greene (Weymouth, Mass.) netted his first-ever collegiate goal in the second to round out the scoring for Stonehill.

Franklin Pierce held a slight edge in shots on net in the game, 28-27, but freshman goaltender Chris Tasioupolos (Norwell, Mass./Thayer Academy) turned away 25 shots to improve to 3-5-0 overall on the season. Ravens netminder Patrick Dunn (Quincy, Mass./Utica College) stopped 21 shots.

Stonehill (3-6-0, 2-1-0 NE-10) travels to Framingham State University on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup at 7:20 p.m. Franklin Pierce (1-4-2, 1-1-1 NE-10) travel to Nichols College on December 7 for a non-conference meeting at 8:10 p.m.
