MANCHESTER, N.H. (December 5, 2009) - Stonehill College ran its winning streak to three games and picked up its first conference win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference men's ice hockey action as part of "A Day of Hockey" at the Verizon Wireless Arena this afternoon.

Sophomore Patrick Greene (Weymouth, Mass./Catholic Memorial) scored two goals to lead Stonehill to the victory, including the game-winner with just 19-seconds left in regulation. The Skyhawks also got a goal from freshman George DeMello (Cotuit, Mass./Tabor Academy).

Sophomore goaltender Tyler Jackson (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) saw his shutout streak come to an end, but made 32 saves, including 17 in the third period alone, to preserve the win. Senior Shane Brooks (Kennebunk, Maine) finished with 27 stops for Southern New Hampshire, who posted a narrow 34-30 advantage in shots on goal, including 18-10 in the third period. Both teams came up empty on four power-play chances.

Sophomore Tyler Jackson extended his record shutout streak to nearly 150 minutes.

Jackson, who had posted back-to-back shutouts entering Saturday's contest including a 6-0 victory over SNHU last Sunday, extended his scoreless streak to a program-record 149:07 - spanning seven periods - before SNHU opened the scoring 3:23 into the second period with a goal from junior William Toomey (Reading, Mass.). The goal was the first Stonehill had allowed as a team in 154:55 dating back to last Saturday's setback to UMass Boston.

Toomey scored his third goal of the season, assisted by junior Andrew Hildreth (Leominster, Mass.) and senior Mark Lodge (Alfred, Maine). Stonehill answered with two goals in the span of 2:02 to take the lead into the second intermission. DeMello netted his team-leading sixth of the season, assisted by junior Andrew Webb (Jaffrey, N.H./Westminister Academy) and freshman Sean McNeil (Canton, Mass./Canton), at 7:23. Greene gave the Skyhawks their first lead with an unassisted strike at 9:25.

SNHU knotted the score midway through the third period with sophomore Doug Boulanger (Beauport, Quebec) scoring his first goal of the season, assisted by senior Ryan DiBartolomeo (Leominster, Mass.) and junior Neil Adams (Gardiner, Mass.), at 10:04.

Greene's game-winning tally came immediately after he finished serving a two-minute penalty. Senior Zachary Cantin (Saugus, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) flipped the puck out to Greene leaving the box, and Greene found himself alone against Brooks, before scoring the puck high for the winner and his fourth tally of the season.

Stonehill (5-6-1, 1-2-0 NE-10) returns to action on Tuesday for its final home game of the first semester as it hosts the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth for a non-conference clash at the Foxborough Sports Center at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (2-6-2, 0-2-1 NE-10) visits Norwich University next Friday at 7 p.m.
