MILTON, Mass. (November 14, 2009) - Curry College scored two goals in the final five minutes of regulation to close out a 6-3 victory over Stonehill College in non-conference ice hockey action at Max D. Ulin Rink this afternoon.

Sophomore John Williams (Flourtown, Pa.) scored two goals and classmate Steven Mohler (Anaheim, Calif.) posted three points with a goal and two assists to lead Curry to its second-straight win to open its season. Senior Sean Sylvester (Randolph, N.J.) added a goal and assist, while sophomores Payden Benning (Estevan, Saskatchewan) and Ryan Barlock (Niles, Ill.) both chipped in with two assists. Sophomore Michael Guzzo (Pinckney, Mich.) and freshman Connor Hendry (Edmonton, Alberta) each contributed goals for the Colonels.

Stonehill got goals from juniors Angelo Todesca (Westwood, Mass./Catholic Memorial) and Andrew Webb (Jaffrey, N.H./Westminster School) as well as freshman Christopher Gorovitz (Framingham, Mass./Framingham). Senior captain Peter Roundy (Simsbury, Conn./Kimball Union) dished out two assists for the Skyhawks.

Senior Steven Jakiel (Santa Clarita, Calif.) made 18 saves to preserve the win for Curry. Junior Michael Manna (Framingham, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) posted 33 stops in goal for Stonehill as the Colonels finished with a 39-21 advantage in shots for the night. Curry was 2-for-5 on the power play, while the Skyhawks converted on 2-of-9.

Stonehill opened the scoring just 2:31 into the contest when Todesca scored his first goal of the season on the power-play, assisted by Roundy and senior Christopher Rogers (Westford, Mass./Pomfret Academy). Curry evened the score less than a minute later when Williams netted his first of the season, assisted by Mohler. The Colonels took the lead into the first intermission on an unassisted tally by Mohler with 3:23 remaining.

Curry extended its lead to two goals 4:52 into the second as Mohler and Sylvester set up Hendry for his second of the season. Stonehill got that goal back less than three minutes later with Gorovitz's first collegiate goal, assisted by freshman Dana Borges (Taunton, Mass./Coyle Cassidy) and sophomore Matt Doherty (Milton, Mass./Thayer Academy), at 7:42.

Curry regained its two-goal cushion when Williams scored what would prove to be the game winner 7:04 into the third, assisted by Barlock and Benning. Webb pulled Stonehill back within a goal 3:31 later, assisted by Roundy and sophomore Bill Harris (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth), on the power-play at 10:35. Barlock and Benning set up the Colonels first insurance goal, scored by Guzzo at 15:48, then with Manna pulled for the Skyhawks in the final minute, Sylvester iced the win with an unassisted empty-netter with ten seconds to play.      

Stonehill (2-2-1, 0-0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday to host Assumption College for its Northeast-10 Conference opener at 7 p.m. Curry (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC-NE) hosts Western New England College on Thursday at 7:35 p.m.
