Chose nets 13 of team-high 19 points in second half to close out win

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (January 25, 2020) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 10 in the D2SIDA East Region poll, limited Southern Connecticut State University to 36.8-percent shooting from the floor to get back in the win column with a 67-59 decision in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at Moore Fieldhouse this afternoon.

Owen Chose Junior, Guard: 19 points (5-for-7 threes), including 13 in the second half, with four rebounds, an assist and steal.

Will Moreton Senior, Guard: 16 points (6-for-16), four rebounds, two assists, a steal and blocked shot.

Monty Urmilevicius Junior, Forward: 14 points (7-for-11), including ten in the first half, four rebounds and two assists.

Michael Boen Senior, Guard: Season-high 14 points (6-for-11), four rebounds, two assists, three steals.

Southern Connecticut State

Greg Jones Junior, Forward: 31 points (12-for-20, 6-for-9 threes), including 19 after halftime, eight rebounds and two assists.

Taurus Adams II Senior, Forward: Double-double of 11 points (4-for-6), ten rebounds (six offensive), an assist, steal and blocked shot.

    Stonehill jumped out to an 11-point lead (15-4) as Moreton scored the Skyhawks first nine points over the first 7:16, capped by four-straight points from sophomore Andrew Sims.
  • Stonehill's first half lead peaked at 12 (19-7) after a Boen layup midway through the half, before Southern scored six-straight on three-pointers by junior C.J. Seaforth and Jones to cut the lead in half (21-15) with 6:17 remaining in the half.
  • Stonehill reclaimed an 11 point lead twice over the remainder of the half, the latter on a Chose three-pointer with five seconds left, but junior Khalil Richard buried a three at the buzzer from beyond half court to send Southern into the lockerroom down by eight (33-25).
  • Jones opened the second half with a three-pointer to draw Southern within five, but Stonehill reeled off the next seven (40-28) after four-straight points from Urmilevicius 2:16 into the frame.
  • Stonehill stretched its lead to 16 (49-33) after a Moreton basket with 14:12 remaining and still held a 15-point margin (59-44) with six minutes left after two-straight threes by Chose.
  • Southern made a late 10-0 run to pull within five (59-54) after a layup by freshman Lyron Bennett with two minutes still to play.
  • Boen stopped the run with a jumper on Stonehill's next possession, but Adams II drew the Owls within four (63-59) with a three-pointer with 24-seconds left. The Skyhawks sealed the win from there, with Chose canning all four free throws as the visitors buried all six tries after the Boen basket, overall.

Noteworthy

  • Stonehill bounced back from back-to-back defeats to secure the win.
  • Southern Connecticut State was limited to 36.8-percent shooting (21-for-57), including 9-for-26 (34.6%) from three-point distance, and Stonehill is 5-2 this season when its opponents shoot under 40% and has now won all four games it has held the opposition under 60 points.
  • Stonehill shot 44.8-percent (26-for-58) from the field.
