EASTON, Mass. (November 21, 2017) – Saint Anselm College turned aside a second-half Stonehill College run to pick up a 90-77 victory in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.

Saint Anselm took a 14-point lead (43-29) into halftime and extended it to 22 points twice in the first four minutes of the second half. Freshman Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) pushed the Hawks lead to 22 for a second time (59-37) and Stonehill responded with an 11-2 run to cut its deficit to 13 (61-48) on a three-pointer from senior Paul Graves (Marion, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) three minutes later. Roach scored six of the Skyhawks 11 points during that stretch.

Saint Anselm's lead was 15 (70-55) after a three-point play by sophomore Jimmy Panzini (Spring Lake, New Jersey/Point Pleasant Beach) midway through the half. Stonehill kept chipping away, using a 10-1 run to pull within six (71-65) on a Largey layup with seven minutes to play. The Hawks held from there, scoring the next seven points, four from Guers after a Fortin three-pointer, to regain a 13-point cushion (78-65) with 5:26 remaining. Moreton answered with a three-pointer for Stonehill, but the visitors scored eight of the next ten points, including eight from Guers to run the lead to 16 (88-72) and seal the win.

Stonehill jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead, with four points from Largey, two and a half minutes into the game, and held a five point lead (15-10) after a Lee layup with 13:16 remaining in the first half. Saint Anselm followed with a 16-4 run to grab a seven-point lead (26-17) on a layup by senior Kyle Green (Woodbury Heights, New Jersey/Camden Catholic) midway through the half.

Saint Anselm would extend its lead to 12 (33-21) after a Nydegger three-pointer, but Stonehill answered with a Moreton layup and three from senior Joel Berroa (Lawrence, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) to trim the deficit to seven (33-26) with 6:25 left in the half. The Hawks followed that with a 10-2 run to open a 15-point lead (43-28) after a Ball three, before taking the 14-point edge into halftime.

Stonehill (1-4, 1-2 NE10) will have a quick Thanksgiving break, before returning to action on Sunday to host preseason No. 5 Saint Thomas Aquinas College, ranked second in the East Region, for a non-conference matchup at 1:30 p.m. Saint Anselm (4-1, 3-0 NE10) hosts LIU Post on Sunday at 1 p.m.
