Washington leads four Bears in double-figures with game-high 27 points
EASTON, Mass. (November 11, 2017) – Bloomfield University overcame a seven point deficit with eight minutes to play to claim a 91-86 victory over Stonehill College in a non-conference men's basketball matchup to conclude the 2017 Stonehill Tip-Off Classic on Paula Sullivan Court at Merkert Gymnasium tonight.
Junior Keith Washington (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/Frankford) led four Bloomfield players in double-figures with a game-high 27 points as he connected on 9-of-21 shots from the field, including 6-for-15 from three-point range. Senior Nick Davidson (Lumberton, New Jersey/Rancocas Valley) added 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting, connecting on all six free-throws, to go with six rebounds, while classmate Marcus Fleming (Linden, New Jersey/Linden) totaled 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with four assists and three boards.
Senior KJ Lee (Huntington Station, New York/Long Island Lutheran) and sophomore Will Moreton (Minneapolis, Minnesota/Edina) combined for 43 points to lead Stonehill. Lee netted 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting, with six rebounds, four assists and two steals, while Moreton scored a career-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 3-for-7 from three-point distance, five rebounds and two assists. Sophomore Dan Largey (Oceanport, New Jersey/Peddie School) added 14 points and five boards, while senior Joel Berroa (Lawrence, Massachusetts/Bridgton Academy) collected a team-high nine rebounds with seven points.
Stonehill trailed by 12 early on after a 16-0 Bloomfield run turned a four-point deficit into a game-high 12-point lead (16-4) after a three-point play from senior Ignacio Diez (Madrid, Spain) six minutes into the game. Washington had nine points during the run, including a pair of three-pointers. Stonehill battled back and knotted the score at 21-21 with 8:50 remaining in the half after back-to-back threes by Moreton and Largey.
Bloomfield took a three-point lead into halftime, but Stonehill grabbed the lead (48-46) on a Largey triple three minutes into the second half. The Skyhawks were able to stretch their lead to a game-high seven (66-59) midway through the half after eight straight points from Moreton.

Stonehill's lead was still seven (70-63) after a Lee layup with eight minutes to go, before Washington buried a three and added a jumper, and junior Kavione Green (Amityville, New York/Amityville) knotted the score with a layup, a minute later. Diez put the Bears back in front, but Stonehill regained the lead with two Moreton free-throws with four minutes to play.
Washington buried another three to push Bloomfield back on top on its next possession. After two Stonehill free-throws by senior Ryan Roach (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Cardinal Spellman) with three minutes to go, Fleming scored a layup at the other end and then after two turnovers and a missed three-pointer from the Skyhawks, he buried a three to extend the Bears lead to six (86-80) with 1:19 on the clock.
Stonehill was able to draw back within two (86-84) with 23-seconds to play after back-to-back layups from Lee and senior Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy), but Bloomfield iced the game at the free-throw line with five straight.
Stonehill (0-2, 0-0 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday, when it opens its Northeast-10 Conference schedule at rival Bentley University at 7:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return to Merkert Gym next Saturday, November 18, to host Saint Michael's College at 3:30 p.m. Bloomfield (2-0, 0-0 CACC) hosts Bowie State University on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
