Stonehill Bounces Back at Assumption, 57-46

Cole leads Skyhawks with third double-double of the season 

WORCESTER, Mass. (December 3, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked eighth in the D2SIDA East Regional poll, returned to the win column in a 57-46 defensive battle at Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference men's basketball action at Laska Gymnasium tonight.

Senior Jack Cole (New Providence, New Jersey/New Providence) led three Stonehill players in double-figures with his third double-double of the season (19th career) as he posted 13 points (11 second half) and a game-high matching 11 rebounds to go with three blocked shots. Sophomore Ryan Logan (Fredericktown, Ohio/Fredericktown) also netted 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the field, with five rebounds and a blocked shot, while junior Carter Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) contributed 11 points, draining all four free-throws, with three boards and an assist. Junior Adam Bramanti (Middleton, Massachusetts/Masconomet) chipped in with eight points (all in the second half) on 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range and the free-throw line to go with three rebounds and two assists.

Stonehill limited Assumption to just 27.8-percent (15-for-54) shooting from the field on the night, including 3-for-11 (27.3%) from three-point range, while connecting at 40% (20-50) overall, with six three-pointers (6-for-17), and converting 11-of-13 (84.6%) free-throws. Both teams took care of the ball with just eight turnovers apiece.

Sophomore Kamali Bey (Springfield, Massachusetts/Wilbraham & Monson) was the lone Assumption player in double-figures for scoring with a game-high 14 points (ten second half), converting 8-of-10 free-throws. Senior Jimmy Zenevitch (Methuen, Massachusetts/Central Catholic)

pulled down a game-high matching 11 rebounds for the Greyhounds. Junior Terrance Bobb-Jones (Wilmington, Delaware/Delcastle Voc-Tech) and sophomore Marcus Murray (Washington, D.C./John F. Kennedy) each added nine points, with Bobb-Jones adding six rebounds, two assists, two blocked shots and a steal.

Stonehill led by as much as eight (21-13) in the first half before settling for a two-point halftime lead (27-25) with Cole scoring a basket at the buzzer. The Skyhawks pushed the lead to seven (34-27) on a Smith jumper four minutes into the second half, working their way to a game-high 11 point (46-36) cushion following a Bramanti three-pointer with 6:41 remaining.

Assumption cut the gap to five (49-44) with a layup by sophomore Jack Sullivan (Stony Point, New York/Albertus Magnus) with three minutes still to play, but would get no closer. Cole pushed the lead back to eight on a three-point play with a minute to go and then Bramanti buried another triple to regain the 11 point advantage (55-44) to seal the win with 26-seconds remaining.

Stonehill (5-2, 3-1 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday, when it visits Southern New Hampshire University for an NE-10 matchup at 3:30 p.m., which will be televised live on NESNplus. The Skyhawks return home next Wednesday, December 10, to host Saint Anselm College at 7:30 p.m. Assumption (2-4, 1-3 NE-10) hosts Merrimack College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
