Friars put five players in double-figures, shoot 55-percent in the second half to take exhibition win
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (November 8, 2014) – Reigning NCAA Division I BIG EAST Champions Providence College shot 55-percent in the second half to break open a 13-point halftime lead and claim a 93-49 victory over Stonehill College in a men's basketball exhibition game in front of 4,234 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center this evening.
Providence, under the direction of head coach Ed Cooley, a 1994 graduate of Stonehill, shot 50-percent from the field (36-for-72) on the night, including the 55-percent (22-for-40) effort in the second half to cruise to the win. The Friars connected on 8-of-19 (42.1%) three-pointers and converted 13-of-18 (72.2%) free-throws. Stonehill was limited to 21.4-percent shooting (12-for-56), including 6-for-31 (19.4%) from beyond the arc, finishing with 17.9% (5-28) from the floor in the second half.

Junior Tyler Harris (Dix Hills, New York/St. Benedict's Prep) led five Providence players in double figures with a game-high 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting, eight rebounds and two steals. Freshman Kyron Cartwright (Compton, California/Compton) added 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting, including 2-for-3 from three-point range, and converting both free-throw attempts while adding four assists and four steals. Senior LaDontae Henton (Lansing, Michigan/Eastern) posted 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, including 2-for-4 from deep, three rebounds, five assists and four steals, while freshman Ben Bentil (Wilmington, Delaware/St. Andrew's School) and sophomore Kris Dunn (New London, Connecticut/New London) both chipped in with 13 points and seven rebounds, with Dunn also posting five assists and two steals.

Freshman Isaiah Bess (LaGrange, Maine/Hampden Academy) scored eight first half points off the bench for the Skyhawks, while junior Josh Heyliger (Queens, New York/The Hill School) chipped in eight points and four rebounds. Sophomore Jimmy Walsh (Manasquan, New Jersey/Manasquan) pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
Providence led by 13 (40-27) at the break despite a 13-2 run that produced a 17 point advantage (30-13) after a pair of Harris free-throws with 7:20 to play in the half. The Friars reeled off a 23-6 run over the opening six minutes of the second half to break the game open (63-33), capped by a Bentil dunk.
Stonehill opens its 2014-15 season next weekend when it participates in the Assumption College Tip-Off Classic in Worcester, Massachusetts, starting Saturday afternoon against Dominican (N.Y.) College at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks home opener is Tuesday, November 25, when it hosts Franklin Pierce University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at Merkert Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. Providence opens its season next Saturday when it hosts the University at Albany at 7 p.m.
