Skyhawks shoot 52.2-percent in second half to pull away to second-straight win
Junior Brian Hamor (Schenectady, N.Y./Bishop Gibbons) led Stonehill with his second-straight 20 point effort as he netted 21 by converting 12-of-14 free-throws to go with 4-of-7 shooting from the field, including 1-for-2 from three-point range. He also dished five assists and added two rebounds and a steal. Senior Patrick Lee (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) added 14 points and five boards with a blocked shot, while freshman Jack Cole (New Providence, N.J./New Providence) contributed eight points, on 4-of-5 shooting, and a game-high seven rebounds with two blocked shots.
Junior Tim Beinert (Bellerose Village, N.Y./Holy Cross) and sophomore Cory Schmidt (Centre Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) each scored a team-best 14 points as the lone Assumption players in double-figures. Beinert made 4-of-11 shots from the field and converted 6-of-10 free-throws to go with a team-high six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Schmidt hit 5-of-9 field goals, including 2-for-5 from three-point range, while converting both free-throw attempts, and pulled in three rebounds.

Stonehill finished shooting 40.4-percent (19-for-47) from the field, including 52.2% (12-23) in the second half, and drained 5-of-12 three-pointers (41.7%) while converting 20-of-32 (62.5%) free-throws. The Skyhawks outscored Assumption 21-14 on points off turnovers and posted a 10-3 edge in second chance points despite being edged on the glass, 35-34.
Assumption made 36.2-percent (17-for-47) of its shots from the field, being held to 29.2% (7-24) in the second half, including 5-for-15 (33.3%) from beyond the arc and converting 12-of-20 (60%) free-throws.
Stonehill didn't make a field goal for the first 11:09 of the contest, getting its first four points at the free-throw line, missing its first 11 shots from the field before Lee broke the drought with a layup with 8:51 remaining in the half on the front end of a three-point play that cut the Skyhawks deficit to seven (14-7). Assumption scored 11 of the first 12 points in the contest and led by as much as 11 (14-3) after a Schmidt three with 10:35 remaining in the half.
Lee's three-point play kick-started Stonehill as the Skyhawks used a 14-0 run to take a three point lead (17-14) on a three-pointer by junior Adam Fazzini (Drums, Pa./Crestwood) with 6:34 to play in the half. Eight straight Assumption points put the Greyhounds back up five (24-19) after a Schmidt three with 2:26 to play in the frame. The Skyhawks scored the final six points of the half, including four from Hamor, to take a one point lead (25-24) into halftime.
Stonehill opened the second half with a 15-4 run to take its first double-figure lead (40-28) on a Lee three pointer six minutes into the frame. Lee had five points and Cole the first four of the half during that stretch. Assumption drew back within eight (40-32) after a Schmidt jumper with 13:10 to play, but the Skyhawks reeled off a ten-straight points to open an 18 point cushion (50-32) on a three by Hamor with 9:36 remaining and the Greyhounds wouldn't get within single digits the rest of the way. Stonehill led by as much as 19 (62-43) after a pair of Hamor free-throw with 2:48 to play.
Stonehill (10-4, 7-3 NE-10) is back on action on Saturday when it returns home to host Le Moyne College at 3:30 p.m. Assumption (7-7, 5-5 NE-10) visits Saint Anselm College on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
