EASTON, Mass. (October 23, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, picked up its third win over the course of a week with a 5-0 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.

Senior All-American Kacie Smith, the reigning Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year, scored the first three goals of the game and added an assist for seven points, netting her third-straight multi-goal game and the fourth hat trick of the season (19th career). The three goals give her 99 in 74 career games played, breaking the program and NE10 career record of 98 by former teammate Erika Kelly, '16, while the assist is the 34th of her career, moving within two of the program record by Kelly Latendresse, '07. She will look to become just the second student-athlete in NCAA Division II history to score 100 career goals, joining Bloomsburg's Jamie Vanartsdalen who scored a national record 120 goals from 2005-08.

Senior Carly Andersen and freshman Olivia Cameron both added second half goals for Stonehill, while freshman Sophie Schreck chipped in with an assist. Senior Sara Freedman and sophomore Katie Lammando combined for the shutout without making a save between them in the Skyhawks cage.

Freshman Jessica Stone kept American International in the game with a season-high matching 17 saves in goal. Senior back Nichara Condo chipped in with a defensive save during a scrum in front of goal in the second half.

Smith opened the scoring 10:53 into the game when she found the back of the cage with a low-angle shot from the right side. After a 45-minute weather delay, Smith doubled the Skyhawks lead with just under ten minutes to play in the half with another unassisted strike from the right side.

Smith finished off the hat trick with her record-breaking 99th career goal 7:24 into the second half with a drive from the upper left side of the arc off a pass from Schreck following a rebound. Andersen's ninth goal of the year came on a tip off a Smith pass from the right side just 2:28 later and then Cameron capped the scoring with 6:06 to play when she knocked in a loose ball off the keepers pads on the right side of the cage for her sixth goal of the year.
