Three difference goal scorers for Skyhawks in fourth straight win

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 26, 2018) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 2 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, came from behind for the second-straight game to record a 3-1 victory over American International College in a non-conference field hockey matchup at Ronald J. Abdow Field this afternoon.

Stonehill got goals from three different players to overcome an early deficit, pulling away in the second half with a pair. Seniors MacKenzie Greenberg, Carly Andersen and Kacie Smith each found the back of the cage to rally the Skyhawks to the win. Senior Sara Freedman preserved the win with two first half saves for the Skyhawks.

American International grabbed the lead against its nationally ranked opponent 9:36 into the contest when freshman Shannon Cormier potted her first collegiate goal. Greenberg's first career goal in her 50th game played with less than 11-minutes to play in the first half leveled the contest.

Andersen put Stonehill in front 8:52 into the second half with her fourth goal of the year and then Smith provided an insurance tally less than seven minutes later when the two-time All-American and reigning Longstreth/NFHCA Division II Player of the Year scored her ninth marker of the season. Smith, who has now scored 86 career goals, has registered

a point in all six games for the Skyhawks this season and 23 of their last 24 contests.

Freshman Jessica Stone finished with 14 saves in the American International goal, including eight in the first half while yielding just one goal over the first 35 minutes.

Stonehill (5-1, 1-0 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it hosts rival Bentley University for its Alumnae Game at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. American International (0-6, 0-1 NE10) visits Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 7 p.m.
