EASTON, Mass. (September 4, 2018) – Assumption College used a pair of second half goals to claim a 3-1 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, in a non-conference field hockey clash on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium tonight.

Sophomore Jennifer Beardsley netted a pair of second half goals to lift Assumption to the big early season win. Junior Sam Tepper also scored a goal for the Greyhounds, while senior Sarah Bodzinski made the goals stand up with five saves, including four in the second half.

Senior All-American Kacie Smith scored the lone goal of the game for Stonehill, giving her a pair through the opening two games of the season after setting a Division II record with 41 markers a year ago. Classmate Sara Freedman finished with five saves in the Skyhawks goal.

Assumption opened the scoring with less than five minutes remaining in the first half as Tepper tipped in a drive from the top of the arc by junior Hannah McGrath for her first goal of the year. Smith equalized with just 13-seconds remaining before halftime with a low shot from the center of the arc into the left side of the cage off a pass from senior Carly Andersen.

Beardsley pushed Assumption back in front just 90-seconds into the second half when she pounced on a loose ball at the left post off a rebound and knocked it in. She gave the Greyhounds an insurance goal with less than 15-minutes to play when she reached into the air on her own rebounded and knocked the ball into the top of the cage at 55:11 for her third goal of the season.

Stonehill would only manage one shot on goal the rest of the way, with Bodzinski turning back a Smith drive off a corner after time had expired which would have merely provided late consolation for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (1-1, 0-0 NE10) returns to action on Sunday when it hosts No. 2-ranked East Stroudsburg University at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Assumption (1-1, 0-0 NE10) visits Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Sunday at 1 p.m.
