EASTON, Mass. (September 4, 2018) – Two key members of the Stonehill College field hockey team's 2-1 triumph over No. 5-ranked West Chester University in their season-opener on Saturday afternoon have been selected to receive weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference office today.

Senior All-American Kacie Smith has been named the NE10 Player of the Week for the fifth time of her career, while sophomore back Elaine Bachelder has earned NE10 Defensive Player of the Week accolades for the first time. Smith had a hand in both Stonehill goals in Saturday's win with a goal and assist, while Bachelder spearheaded the defensive effort that held West Chester scoreless for 69-minutes before conceding a late consolation marker, posting a pair of defensive saves in the win.

Smith, the reigning Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II and NE10 Player of the Year, is coming off a record-breaking junior season in which she led all three levels of NCAA field hockey in scoring and goals, while leading the NE10 with her school-record 17 assists. She set an NCAA Division II record with 41 goals, while her 99 points set a new NE10 single-season standard. Smith is a two-time Longstreth/NFHCA North Region and NE10 Player of the Year, earning All-NE10 first team accolades twice as well.

She ranks second in program history for career points, goals and game winning goals (17), while ranking third for career assists. She also earned a spot on the NE10 Academic All-Conference team as a junior and appeared in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the November 6, 2017 issue of Sports Illustrated. Smith is a Zag/NFHCA National Academic Squad member and has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll multiple semesters.

Bachelder anchors the Stonehill defensive backfield at center-back, after earning Synapse Sports Division II All-Rookie and NE10 All-Rookie Team status as a freshman. She led a Skyhawks backline that limited opponents to 2.20 goals per game, with six shutouts. Bachelder has started 20 of her 21 career games played, totaling three defensive saves and dishing out one assist.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE10), ranked No. 6 in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II preseason poll, is right back in action for its Purple & White Game tonight against Assumption College for a non-conference matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks will host No. 2 East Stroudsburg University on Sunday at 1 p.m.
