Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division II Senior Game Announcement

EASTON, Mass. (October 19, 2017) – Two members of the Stonehill College field hockey program have been named participants for the 2017 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II Senior Game to be played on Saturday, November 18, at Bellarmine University, in Louisville, Kentucky, at 7 p.m.

Senior captains Alexandra Gerew (Woodstock, Connecticut/Pomfret School) and Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) will represent Stonehill among the 46 student-athletes selected as participants or alternates for the contest. The all-star game is being held in conjunction with the 2017 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships being hosted at Bellarmine and at Trager Stadium at the University of Louisville, November 17-19.

Gerew is a two-year starter in midfield for Stonehill, having started 43 of her 66 career games played. She has started all 15 games this fall and chipped in two goals and two assists for six points. Gerew netted a career-high two goals in the Skyhawks 9-0 win at Southern Connecticut State University on September 23.

Gerew has started 41 straight games for Stonehill after last night's 4-2 win over Merrimack College, having contributed seven goals and six assists for 20 career points. She has been named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll two semesters.

Sylvia is a three-year start for Stonehill, having started all 56 games over the last three seasons. She is third on the team in scoring with 20 points through 15 games this fall, ranking second on the team with four assists and third with eight goals. Sylvia, who is also second on the team with three game-winning goals, ranks ninth among Northeast-10 Conference goal leaders and 13th in scoring. She matched her career-high with a pair of goals in the Skyhawks 4-3 comeback win at Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday.

Sylvia has started 56 of 77 games played over her career at Stonehill, having totaled 27 goals and 15 assists for 69 points. She is currently tied for tenth on the program's career scoring list and ninth for career goals. Named to the NE10 All-Rookie Team as a freshman, Sylvia has earned NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll and Athletic Director's Honor Roll status for her efforts in the classroom.

Stonehill (12-3, 9-0 NE10), ranked No. 6 in this week's Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II poll, carries a ten game winning streak into Saturday's NE10 matchup with No. 8 Pace University on Senior Day at W.B. Mason Stadium, as part of Family Weekend at the College, at 1p.m.
