Smith Tabbed NE-10 Rookie of the Week for Fourth Time

Norwood, Massachusetts, freshman earns weekly award after five point week

EASTON, Mass. (November 2, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) has been named the Northeast-10 Conference's Field Hockey Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, the league announced today.

Smith's fourth Rookie of the Week award highlights a run of Stonehill freshman who have collected the weekly award six of the nine weeks this fall. Smith, who has earned the honors twice in the last three weeks after receiving the award back to back weeks on September 14 and 21, has been joined by classmates Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) and Carly Andersen (Cheshire, Connecticut/Canterbury School) who were named Rookie of the Week on September 28 and October 4, respectively.

Smith posted five points with two goals and an assist in a 1-1 week for Stonehill. She dished an assist on the Skyhawks first goal that leveled their match with No. 6 Merrimack College on Tuesday in the first half. Smith then added two second half goals within a five minute span on Friday night to break open Stonehill's 4-0 win over Pace University.

Smith enters her first collegiate postseason riding a five game point streak, having netted multiple goals in two of those contests. She ranks second on the team with 12 goals and seven assists for 31 points, ranking third among NE-10 leaders for goals, fourth in points and sixth in assists. Her goal total is just one shy of cracking the program's single-season top ten, while she ranks 11th on Stonehill's single-season scoring list. Smith ranks ninth nationally in Division II for goals per game (0.71), 13th for assists per game (0.41) and tenth in scoring (1.82 ppg). She posted a season-best eight points with a season-high matching three goals to go with a season-high matching two assists in an 8-2 win over Southern Connecticut State University on October 16.

Stonehill, ranked ninth in the most recent Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, is seeded fourth as it opens defense of its Northeast-10 Tournament this week. The Skyhawks will host fifth-seeded and No. 10-ranked Saint Anselm College for a first round battle at W.B. Mason Stadium tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
