Greyhounds net three second half goals, two by Colucci, to take win

EASTON, Mass. (October 3, 2015) – Assumption College scored three second half goals to power its way to a 4-1 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 7 in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, in a battle of Northeast-10 Conference field hockey unbeaten teams at Timothy J. Coughlin Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Assumption struck for three goals in the second half, including two from senior Kiley Colucci (Gloucester, Rhode Island/St. Mary Academy), to stop Stonehill's five game win streak and assume sole possession of first place in the NE-10 standings. Sophomore Bridget Boyle (Stow, Massachusetts/Nashoba Regional) made five of her eight saves in the second half to preserve the win. Sophomore Allison Sheahan (Higganum, Connecticut/Haddam-Killingworth) also netted a pair of goals for Assumption.

Stonehill posted a 17-14 edge in shots, including 9-5 in the second half, and held an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners in the match. Senior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) scored Stonehill's lone goal with her NE-10 leading tenth marker of the year. Freshman Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) finished with six saves in the Skyhawks goal.

Assumption struck first with Sheahan's fourth goal of the season just 4:40 into the game, tipping in a deflected pass on the right post off a corner. Kelly equalized for Stonehill less than ten minutes later with her tenth goal of the year, knocking in a rebound following an initial shot by sophomore Rachael Wallace (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) at 13:23.

Assumption regained the lead just 1:07 into the second half with Colucci's first goal of the afternoon, scoring on a low angle on the right side after she carried the ball from the top of the arc following a corner. Sheahan gave the Greyhounds a two goal cushion seven minutes later off a Stonehill turnover when she powered her first goal of the season through Freedman's legs at 43:12.

Assumption hit Stonehill on the counterattack late to seal the victory with Colucci finishing off her double by knocking in a rebound off a Juneau shot for her fifth goal of the season with just 3:19 remaining.

Stonehill (6-4, 4-1 NE-10) looks to get back on track Wednesday when it visits Franklin Pierce University for an NE-10 matchup at 4 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Tuesday, October 13, to host Saint Anselm College, currently ranked No. 8 nationally, at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Assumption (7-3, 5-0 NE-10) is at Dowling College on Monday for a non-conference contest at 4 p.m.
