Smith Named NE-10 Rookie of the Week

Norwood, Massachusetts, freshman collects weekly honor for second straight week

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2015) – Stonehill College freshman forward Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) has earned Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week honors in field hockey for the second straight week by the league office.

Smith posted five points for Stonehill in a 1-1 week with two goals and an assist, running her point streak to three games after netting the first three goals of her collegiate career in a 10-0 win over Southern New Hampshire University to collect her first NE-10 Rookie of the Week award. Smith had a hand in both Stonehill goals at Merrimack College on Thursday with a goal and assist. She followed that up with a goal in Saturday's 4-2 win at Saint Michael's College in the Skyhawks Northeast-10 opener.

Smith has appeared in all five games to date during her freshman season at Stonehill and shared the team lead with five goals to go with one assist for 11 points. She is also tied for first among Northeast-10 goal scoring leaders, while ranking third in scoring. Smith ranks fourth nationally in Division II for goals per game (1.00) and seventh in points per game (2.20).

Stonehill (2-3, 1-0 NE-10) is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 matchup at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks host 6th-ranked Limestone College on Saturday for a non-conference clash on Saturday at noon, before wrapping up the three game week with an NE-10 clash at 5th-ranked LIU Post on Sunday at noon.
