Six Skyhawks net goals, led by three from Smith and two each by Kelly and Healy 

EASTON, Mass. (September 12, 2015) – Stonehill College, ranked fifth in the Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II preseason poll, bounced back from a pair of setbacks last weekend to claim a 10-0 triumph over Southern New Hampshire University in non-conference field hockey action at Timothy J. Coughlin '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.

Stonehill got goals from six different players to hand head coach Susan Ciufo her first career win. Freshman Kacie Smith (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) scored the first three goals of her collegiate career, while senior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) contributed two goals and an assist and junior Shea Healy (Greenfield, Massachusetts/Pioneer Valley) netted a pair of markers. Senior All-American Elizabeth Thornton (Needham, Massachusetts/Needham) and junior Sarah Morse (Westminster, Massachusetts/Oakmont Regional) each chipped in with a pair of assists.

Also netting goals for Stonehill were sophomore Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) and freshmen Bonnie Woods (Stony Brook, New York/Ward Melville) and Carly Andersen (Cheshire, Connecticut/Canterbury School). Junior Dana Dhami (Glastonbury, Connecticut/Glastonbury) earned her first career win in goal for the Skyhawks, making one first half save, before giving way to freshman Sara Freedman (Hopkinton, Massachusetts/Hopkinton) for the second half and she stopped all five shots on goal she faced to complete the shutout win.

Freshman Kacie Smith netted the first three goals of her career today.

Stonehill finished with a 37-10 advantage for shots in the contest, including 25-1 in the first half to stake out a 4-0 lead, and held a 14-9 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Jill Piacitelli (East Greenwich, Rhode Island/East Greenwich) posted 15 saves over the first 59:57 in the Southern New Hampshire goal.

Stonehill scored twice in the opening 11:20 for what proved to be all the offense it would need. Healy scored her first goal of the afternoon off a penalty corner 4:57 into the contest, with senior Maggie Travers (Scituate, Massachusetts/Scituate) squaring a corner by Morse. Smith netted her first career goal at 11:20 when she knocked in a rebound at the left post.

Healy added her second of the match on another Morse corner, squared by Kelly, at 21:03. Kelly wrapped up the first half scoring when she stole the ball off a SNHU defender's stick and walked in for a wrist shot into the right side at 29:45.

Stonehill broke the game open with a six goal second half, with markers by Sylvia and Smith just 45-seconds apart less than seven minutes in setting the tone.

Stonehill (1-2, 0-0 NE-10) is back in action on Thursday when it visits Merrimack College for a non-conference battle at 7 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Wednesday, September 23, to host Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at 7 p.m. Southern New Hampshire (2-2, 0-0 NE-10) visits Mercy College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
