Kelly's second-straight hat trick leads Skyhawks to fifth-straight win

MANCHESTER, N.H. (November 4, 2014) –  Junior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) netted her second straight hat trick to lead Stonehill College, ranked fourth in this week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll, to a 4-2 victory at Saint Anselm College in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action at Grappone Stadium tonight.

Kelly, who also netted three goals in Saturday's 6-2 win at Southern Connecticut State University and surpassed the program's career scoring mark in the process, added three more goals tonight for her fourth hat trick of the season (tenth career) to lead Stonehill to its season-high matching fifth straight win. She now leads the Skyhawks with 21 goals, marking the second-highest single-season total in program history behind only her own program and Northeast-10 record 38 scored last season, while her 47 points rank third on the program's single-season list.

Junior Lauren Giordano (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) also netted a goal for the Skyhawks, while sophomore Sarah Morse (Westminster, Massachusetts/Oakmont Regional) dished out two assists to post just the eighth ten assist season in program history, pulling within four helpers of the single-season record of 14 by Kelly Latendresse '07 in 2005.

Sophomore Katherine Sears (Northboro, Massachusetts/Algonquin) registered 14 stops in the Saint Anselm cage.

Senior Bridget Davis (Mansfield, Massachusetts/Mansfield) and junior Colleen Sears (Danvers, Massachusetts/Bishop Fenwick) scored goals for Saint Anselm.

Davis gave Saint Anselm an early lead when she converted a penalty stroke 6:12 into contest. Kelly responded by netting the next three goals for Stonehill, equalizing at 14:35 when she took a corner pass from Morse and fired a high shot into the left side of the cage.

The game remained tied until Kelly put Stonehill in front off another Morse corner at 48:35 with a low drive into the right side of the goal. Kelly finished off her hat trick with a penalty stroke three minutes later for a 3-1 Skyhawks lead.

Sears pulled Saint Anselm back within a goal with an unassisted drive through traffic in front of the cage at 62:19. Giordano provided an insurance goal for Stonehill when she scored her tenth goal of the season off a feed from junior Elizabeth Thornton (Needham, Massachusetts/Needham) with just 2:21 remaining to seal the win.
