NE-10 Field Hockey Weekly Release

EASTON, Mass. (September 22, 2014) – Stonehill College junior All-American Erika Kelly (Watertown, Massachusetts/Watertown) and freshman forward Alexandria Sylvia (Brockton, Massachusetts/Brockton) have both earned weekly honors from the Northeast-10 Conference after helping lead the Skyhawks to a 2-0 week.

Kelly earns NE-10 Player of the Week honors for the first time this season (fourth career), while Sylvia has been named the Conference's Rookie of the Week for the first time. The duo combined to score five of Stonehill's eight goals in wins at rival Bentley University and Franklin Pierce University last week.

Kelly led Stonehill with three goals and two assists for eight points over the two games, having a hand in five of the Skyhawks eight goals on her own, including her 54th career goal to surpass the previous program record of 53 markers set by Caitlin Gleason, '08. Kelly posted two goals and an assist in Saturday's 4-1 victory at Franklin Pierce, with her second marker of the afternoon breaking the career goals record and giving her 115 career points (54 goals, seven assists) – just three shy of Claire Hourihan, '10 (118 points) for second all-time at Stonehill and 17 points shy of Gleason's career record of 132 points. Kelly also contributed a goal and assist in Wednesday's 4-0 win at rival Bentley.

Kelly leads the Northeast-10 in scoring through five games with 19 points on a league-leading eight goals and three assists, which shares the team lead and ranks third in the NE-10. She also ranks third nationally in Division II with 3.80 points and 1.60 goals per game, while ranking 11th with 0.60 assists per contest. Kelly has scored a goal in each of the Skyhawks last four games, including a career-high matching four goals to go with an assist for a career-best nine points in Stonehill's wild 8-7 overtime win against 9th-ranked East Stroudsburg University on September 7.

Kelly was a consensus first team All-America selection following her sophomore season in which she led Division II with a program and Northeast-10 record 38 goals to go with two assists for a program and NE-10 record matching 78 points. She netted a program-record and NE-10 high ten gamewinning goals, including two in overtime, and was a unanimous first team All-Northeast-10 selection. Kelly's 1.81 goals per game is a new Division II record, while her 3.71 points per game also led the country and her point total shared the Division II lead. She finished just two goals shy of the NCAA Division II single-season record of 40 by Jamie Vanartsdalen of Bloomsburg (Pa.) University in 2008 and recorded at least a point in 19 of her 21 games played.

Kelly has played 45 career games at Stonehill and ranks eighth in NE-10 history with her 54 career goals, while her 115 career points are good for 12th all-time in NE-10 history. She earned a spot on the Conference's All-Rookie team in 2012.

Sylvia collects the first NE-10 weekly award of her career after scoring a pair of goals for four points during Stonehill's two wins last week, netting a goal each in the wins at Bentley and Franklin Pierce. Her second half goal at Bentley helped the Skyhawks break open a 1-0 halftime lead, while her marker at Franklin Pierce capped a three goal burst over a seven minute span in the opening 13:29.

Sylvia ranks third on the team with her three goals and six points after opening five games of her collegiate career, ranking ninth among NE-10 leaders for goals scored. She got her collegiate career off to a fast start with the insurance goal during Stonehill's 2-0 season-opening win over then No. 5-ranked Merrimack College on September 5.

Stonehill (5-0, 0-0 NE-10), ranked 5th in last week's Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II preseason coaches' poll, is off until next Tuesday, September 30, when it hosts Saint Anselm College for a non-conference clash at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m.
