Stonehill College's Capital One Academic All-Americans
EASTON, Mass. (June 4, 2014) – Stonehill College senior All-American Devin Ingersoll (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) has earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-America at large second team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America committee.
Ingersoll, a two-time Capital One Academic All-District I first team selection, earns Academic All-America honors for the first time in her career with her spot on the at large second team. The CoSIDA women's at large Academic All-America program includes student-athletes competing in bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, and water polo. Ingersoll is Stonehill's 13th Academic All-America selection all-time and just the second member of the field hockey program after former field hockey and lacrosse dual student-athlete Amy Bartlett, '02, was a second team selection to the At Large Academic All-America squad in 2002.
Ingersoll becomes the 12th Stonehill student-athlete all-time to earn a total of 13 Academic All-America honors as her selection marks the fifth straight year Stonehill has had at least one Academic All-America honoree. She is the eighth female student-athlete at Stonehill to earn Academic All-America honors and the seventh named to the at large team.
Ingersoll, who recently graduated with a 3.85 cumulative grade point average as an environmental science major at Stonehill, adds this latest honor to a mantle full of awards over her career. She was recently named the Edward E. Martin Female Scholar-Athlete Award recipient at Stonehill's Senior Student-Athlete Awards dinner and was a finalist for the Northeast-10 Conference Woman of the Year award as well as the College's nominee for the NE-10's Outstanding Female Scholar-Athlete Award. Ingersoll earned the NE-10 Sport Excellence Award for field hockey this season and is a two-time NE-10 Academic All-Conference pick, having earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the fall semester.
Ingersoll is a two-time All-America selection, collecting second team honors from both the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) and synapsesports.com this fall after being named to the Longstreth/NFHCA All-America second team as a junior. She is a two-time All-NE-10 first team pick and was named the NE-10 Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2010.
Ingersoll started all 22 games for Stonehill last fall and led the team with 11 assists to go with five goals for 21 points. She netted two gamewinning goals and also chipped in with a defensive save, ranking sixth in the NE-10 and 12th nationally for assists. She posted a season-high two goals in a 4-2 win at Saint Michael's College on September 14 as well as the Skyhawks overtime setback to 7th-ranked Merrimack College in the NCAA Tournament.
Ingersoll, who started all 84 of Stonehill's games over her four year career, totaled 24 goals and 20 assists for 68 points over her collegiate career with seven gamewinners. Ingersoll posted a team-high 25 points her junior year with a team-best 12 goals to go with one assist. She ranks tenth in program history for career points, sixth all-time for career assists and ninth for career goals.
Ingersoll was named to the womensfieldhockey.com Division II and NE-10 All-Rookie teams following her freshman season. She has been named to the Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA National Academic Squad all four years and has earned NE-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll status all eight semesters and Athletic Director's Honor Roll seven times to date. She was also selected to participate in the Front Rush/NFHCA Division II Senior All-Star Game last fall. Ingersoll, who is the field hockey team's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative, studied abroad in Australia during the spring 2013 semester, spending time doing research in the Outback, and completed an internship at the Stonehill Farm in the summer of 2013. She recently was recognized with the Student Life Vice President's Award and Academic Excellence Award in Environmental Science and is a member of Lambda Epsilon Sigma Honor Society.
Stonehill finished the 2013 season with an 18-4 record overall, including an 8-2 clip in the Northeast-10. The Skyhawks are ranked fifth in the final regular season Penn Monto/NFHCA Division II and earned the fifth NCAA Tournament bid in program history after reaching the NE-10 Championship for a fifth time. Stonehill opened the season with a program-record 16-straight wins and fell just a win shy of the single-season record of 19 set in 2005.
With 20 intercollegiate sports, Stonehill boasts one of the top athletic and academic programs in the country. The Skyhawks have finished in the top three in the final NE-10 Presidents' Cup standings ten straight years, including a second place finish in 2013-14, winning the Cup four times, including a streak of three-straight from 2009-10 through 2011-12. This prestigious award is given to the top performing athletic school in the Northeast-10, across all sports and seasons. Stonehill has received the NCAA Division II Presidents' Award for Academic Achievement each of the first three years of the program's existence of honoring programs with an Academic Success Rate (ASR) of 90-percent or better. The Skyhawks have earned a 97% Academic Success Ranking (ASR) by the NCAA, which considers the academic success rate of the institution based on the graduation rate of student-athletes, good for fifth among all NCAA Division II institutions, with ten Skyhawk teams receiving a perfect rating of 100%. In addition, the Skyhawks are ranked sixth in the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) Power Rankings used to assess the academic and athletic standards of all NCAA and NAIA athletic programs. Stonehill has also been the host site for the 2016 NCAA Division II Field Hockey Championships at W.B. Mason Stadium.
